I am wondering if anyone uses or has used a Mio Link HR bracelet?
Are they any good? I am looking for something really basic to broadcast HR to my iPad for Zwift.
I won’t be using it outdoors at all, as I already have a Garmin for that.
I had one that twice died on me. Once under warranty and once outside of warranty. I liked the mio for being able to stick it in other place and get a good reading. I’ve placed it under my bibs on top of my thigh, in the sleeve of my speed suit on my bicep area, and in the strap on my wrist.
To get good readings you need to crank the strap down or at least I did. Used in the other locations I mentioned it needed tight kit and the darker the better. Readings from the other locations sans straps was hit or miss, but not having to wear a HR strap and still get HR was awesome. On the wrist it was so tight that it made for a real lack of comfort and would rather have had a chest strap.
Honestly, the Mio Link is pretty dated these days.
I’d look at numerous other alternatives instead:
Optical:
- Polar OH1/OH1 Plus (my reco here)
- Wahoo TICKR FIT
- Scosche 24
Chest:
- Wahoo TICKR 2020
- Garmin HRM-DUAL
- Polar H9 or H10
- 4iiii Viiiiva
Just my two cents…
I used a mio link a few years ago. It worked pretty good. I liked it until it stopped working.
When the mio died I moved on to a scoche rhythm, and later a rhythm24. I eventually got away from optical heart rate monitors becuse I had issues getting them sync’d to my devices. that probably more of a scoche issue not a Mio link issue.
I’m back to using chest straps. I never havent had issues with them.
Hey DCR,
Thanks for your response.
Those are all great.
The reason that I mentioned the Mio even though it is old is because, is because this will only be secondary so that I can qualify for races on Zwift during Corona, for my main racing and training I have a PM on the bike with a Garmin and HR.
So I was hoping to pick up something cheap on ebay, that will work for a couple of months.
Once corona is over I doubt I will do any Zwift races and for training I still get all my data off the bike PM.
Get the Scorsche Rhythm +. I had the Mio Link and it was junk. The Scorshe works great and, imho is second only to the strap for accuracy and dependability. And its inexpensive.
I still have my Mio Link and use it on the bike trainer with my Garmin Edge and Zwift.
It is simple to use and very small (I have a very small wrist).
The first one died while still under warranty and was replaced. This is the 2nd one and it’s been fine. I have replaced the band once.
I used one for awhile and it worked fine. But I stopped riding indoors for a few years ago sold passed it on to someone else. When I started riding indoors again I picked up a Wahoo Tickr Fit about 4 months ago. I love it so much it has now replaced my chest strap when I’m riding outside.
I use mine a couple of times a week, running and cycling. I don’t need to have it super tight. I have had it for years.
It is not perfect, but for me works almost as well as a chest strap.
Still use mine. Just be aware they stopped making them a while ago and there is no customer support. I don’t even know if you can still download the app.
I’ve had two MIOs. Liked them, but they each died in about a year. I’ve moved over to the Polar OH1; happy so far.
I have the same use case as you; my Garmin Fenix only transmits HR in Ant+, so I need a BT HRM for Zwift. I also find that I can put the puck on my quad (held in place by bibs/trishorts) and get a more accurate reading than on my wrist (less movement/flex), and don’t need the forearm strap.
I have been using the same one for about four years now. It works great.
Scosche was terrible on me.
Mio works every time. Never gets fooled into cadence like the Scosche which only recorded my run cadence.
Does what it needs to do and does it reliably.
