The DA-9000 derailleur is only spec-ed up to 28 but I suspect it can handle 30 no problem. My Ultegra 6700 short-cage derailleur could. Anyone running something like this right now?
I see that SRAM makes an 11-30 for 11-speed. Considering it.

There was no long cage DA-9000 rear derailleur. That said you can remove the long cage from a Ultegra 6800 RD and replace the DA9000 cage with it.
Or upgrade to 11 speed as it will work up to 32t cassette (IIRC)
Thanks for replying but I think you misunderstood me. Well. perhaps I just wrote poorly (more likely).
I don’t need to upgrade to 11 speed. I already have DA-9000 which is 11-speed. I realize that they don’t make a long-cage derailleur for DA-9000 and I don’t want to buy one. I want to use the existing derailleur for a 30 tooth cassette. I wanted to know if anyone is running DA-9000 currently with the short-cage derailleur and a 30-tooth cassette.
My old Shimano 6700 system was not recommended for a cassette that big but it worked fine, even with the short-cage derailleur. I’m hoping that DA-9000 is the same but I’d like to hear from someone who is doing it now before blowing the $300 on the cassette I want.
I might not have been clear either I do know that the Di2 7900 worked with a 32t (I did it) and according to what I’ve read you can make it work with DA9000 as well by either changing the cage with a long cage from a Ultegra 6800 or adjusting the b-limit screw.
I recall it being stating here once that Shimano is conservative with their specs and running a 30 cog was doable with the short cage derailleurs. Let us know!
Will do. I’m sure it’s fine but I’m also a worrier and would still feel better hearing someone tell me so from first hand experience with this particular setup.

I used RD-9000 with a 12-29t cassette on a particularly hilly outing while in Taiwan. There were no issues. Some of the problems you’ll run into potentially is a frame with poorly engineered derailleur placement or if your chainring combination exceeds the total capacity of the rear derailleur cage.

No… harden up and get an 11-23 on there…
Yes it will work.
I run an 11-32 on mine for some rides.
Just need to avoid going full cross chain.
When I did The Double Triple Bypass in CO last year I ran a 30 on my DA and no problem at all.
Excellent, thanks to all.
I’m using an Ultegra 12-30 on the DA-9000 rd
No issues at all, even riding in 52-30 cogs for short periods of time.
I currently run 11-32 on DA9000 and it’s fine. Probably won’t work on all frames (depending on the hanger), but there’s a fair chance 30 would work on just about anything.
Thanks again. I think it’s pretty much unanimous.
I’m putting this on a CAAD 10 so I should be fine, I think. Back when I had Ultegra 6700, I mostly used an 11-27 cassette but would switch to 12-30 for the really hilly climbs. It will be nice to effectively combine those two cassettes into one.
Take a look at this thread.

This.

You could always pick up a cheap 105 5800 cassette if you really want to try it out first (they come in 11-32T but seemingly no 30T option as yet) and then use it on the training bike or sell it on afterwards. That said, I think it’ll be fine. I’ve heard of people taking the B-screw out of their derailleur and installing it in the other side to get themselves enough clearance for a larger sprocket; never had to try it myself but maybe worth a bit of research if it’s a tight fit. Good luck!
