For next season i got a sweet deal on Corima wheels or Mavic, i can pick which wheels i want. I´ve ridden Mavic before but never Corima and i don´t know anyone who does.
Do anyone here have any experience of Corima wheels, and what do you think about them?
PS. Do you say, of Corima wheels? Is it correct grammar? Thanks for the education
Corima is an excellent manufacturer. I’ve owned the “Medium” version wheels (which were very light) as well as the Quad-spoke. Both sets were of excellent quality and generally durable. The only reason that I don’t have them anymore is that they were replaced with LEW’s and Nimble Crosswinds which are both lighter. (although not by much…maybe 150g/set)
I ride Corima Aero (a few more spokes and a bit more carbon than the Medium) and they are a great set of wheels. Apart from being hard to get they are super smooth and very fast.
i use the disc and it is very smooth. All I will say is cast an eye on the trueness of it when you buy one. Their quality does vary and both Renn’s, Mavics, and Zipps are far truer than Corima’s. But thats quibling over what is a solid product.
I used to have a pair of Corima 4-spokes and they were sweet wheels. I only had a problem with crosswinds at one race, the Tour of the Gila time trial stage. The winds were so bad as you came over the top of the climb that it literally moved my bike 4 feet when the wind hit because I wasn’t expecting it. The rest of the climb had been nice and relatively sheltered. lol Nice wheels…
I have ridden Corima mediums for 3 seasons road racing plus a few tri’s having a corima disc on the back. I will add 2 points to what has already been said.
First, I was riding the corima’s in the Montreal to Quebec road race 2005. At 50K/hr I hit a pot hole and thought for an instant I was going down with what I would assume was a shattered rim. 20 seconds later I was still rolling like nothing happened. Point of story? I am so confident the Corima’s are bullet proof compared to the number of Zipp broken hubs&spokes I have seen at the bike store I frequent. The hubs are really smooth too. So, you have a great combination of light weights, smooth ride, and rock solid in the corima’s.
Second, I raced Mavic Cosmic Carbone on the front, and Mavic disc on the back at Disney half 2005. WOW! Now, if you can afford that combination there is nothing else better. Carbone’s fly once up around 35K+/hr. But who can afford Mavic? My experience was a one-time lender. Nothing beats Mavic IMHO but the carbone’s are heavy in comparison to alot of wheels available and that + costs makes them out of league.
I have a Corima disc that I quite like. I bought it used from timemachine, and the only negative is that if I want to use it on the track, I’d need to send it back to the factory to be modified (unlike the Zipp, where one can just buy the hub adaptor). Sending the disc back to France is somewhat cost-prohibitive, so I’m SOL for a dual-purpose disc. My recommendation is to have the modification done upon order if you think you might want to ride it on the track.
