I rode the trail all the way out though Redlands today and it just ends at Waterman Ave. I had heard it went further than that so I thought I would check and see if I made a wrong turn.
Thanks,
Rod
I’ve ridden the trail round trip many times, but not recently. How many miles did you end up with? That would be the first indicator if you missed something. I beleive round trip from Huntington Beach is around 63 miles or so. The trail ends just past the Green River Golf Club, but just before that there is a section where you get off the trail and onto surface streets and then end up in park and then back onto the trail at the other end of the park for the final mile or two to the golf club.
Not sure where Waterman Ave is.
I’ve ridden the mountain bike singletrack of that name in the mountains above Redlands. Is that what you’re talking about?
The trail does end at Waterman and does not connect to the SART at Green River, yet. I ride the SART often both in Riverside/SB and OC. I live in Riverside so I often just ride from my house and incorporate the Riverside/SB portion of the trail into my route. About 1x per month I’ll drive to Green River and ride to Huntington, etc.
Currently there are two sections of the SART with about a 15 mile gap between them.
There is the Eastern section you mention that heads East from Waterman for about 18 miles before it ends in field in the Riverside area. Then there is the Western section that runs from Green River down to the ocean.
The long term plan is for these two sections to be connected and an additional section built that will extend from Waterman out to the mountains. I don’t see these things happening for a long time in this economic climate.
The few long rides I did before Vineman incorporated both sections of the trail. I would leave from Redlands, taking San Bernardino Ave out to Waterman, hop on the river trail for about 17 miles, exit the trail at Tyson Ave. Take that until I turned right on Magnolia, turned right again on Ontario and then left onto Green River until it connected with the Eastern section of the trail.
I live in Norco so I in the middle where it is to be built. I ride the trail to the beach al the time and only a few times gone east though Riverside. Today was the first time I went all the way to Redlands since I had the time and was surprised the way it ended at Waterman. I know in OC they have flipped the side you ride on a few times by Angles stadium and if you miss the turn it just ends like that so I thought I would ask. Thanks for the help.
