Anyone paying much attention to the space shuttle

and space station? I used to hold a mild interest, but the long term goals are unclear. I don’t know that we can afford to explore for the sake of exploration. I’m sure it’s an amazing adventure and the fulfillment of a lifetime of dreams for the men and women who travel into space, but I haven’t heard much lately about the tangible benefits.

What do you mean you haven’t heard of any tangible benefits? I heard they were testing paints that were made of urine and that people were having sex in space for the first time.

As soon as we win the war in Iraq we are sending a man to Mars, at least that was the plan a year or two ago.

The shuttle is kind of wasteful. They should cut their losses and work on the next generation of rockets.

That being said, astronauts are the best ambassadors to inspire young people to take up the sciences. At this point, anything we can do to get young people into the sciences is money well spent. Seems like the USA is really slipping in this area.
