Our son is considering studying Mechanical Engineering and one of his choices is Cooper Union. If you, or an acquaintance, went there…I’d love to hear your thoughts about applying, going there and realities of going to a school with it’s structure.
With his grades and abilities(obviously from my wife’s side) he’ll be able to go to most good engineering schools but I want him to reach high. What can you share? thx in advance.
A good friend and former law partner went there for chemical engineering. He raved about it. AS I recall there is no tuition. You will have to pay for room and board, and in NYC that is not cheap. But I did that for 3 years of law school myself and it can be done. NYC is a great place to go to school.
I went to RPI, and I would probably go to Cooper Union if I had that choice to do it over again. (One disclaimer, I was born in Manhattan so I am biased.)
I had a studio professor that went there. She was in very high regard because of Cooper Union. She was a bit of a nutcase though lol. Architecture degree, I have no experience with CU educated engineers.
Warning - unsolicited advice: I have a friend from high school that went to Rose Hulman and raves about it. It’s usually ranked first in the country for M.E. without a ph.d. program. I have another friend that went to Harvey Mudd and loved it. It’s often tied with Rose Hulman. Cooper Union is right behind them, so still a great school, but you read my experience already
