i adore calvin and hobbes… thanks!!!

You’re welcome. You can pay me back by sending me a few links to funny ones so I don’t have to read them all.

“I think I wounded him. Hand me the bat and I’ll finish him off!”…

Classic!

Best comic strip ever! Thanks for the link.

I never appreciated the humor of the parents when I was little, but I think BW does a really brilliant job of capturing the humor of being a kid and the humor of being an adult/parent. Plus, his artwork is just awesome… It sucks that nowadays Calvin has been bastardized in the little character peeing on a Ford or Cevy logo that people stick on their trucks.

Thanks. That’s awesome. I’ll waste some time at work looking at these tomorrow. I didn’t know that C&H was only published for 10 years.

I think its a tie…Far Side and C&H were both classics. I’d throw old Bloom County in 3rd… I just introduced my 7 year old daughter to Calvin…She doesn’t always get it, but she likes him. We’re also big fans of Get Fuzzy, in my opinion, one of the few decent comics currently being produced.

Very cool…always loved that strip. Missed it when it went away, so thanks for the link!

I introduced my daughter to C&H when she was 7 (I have all the books). She’s now 13 and has an amazing vocabulary. I attribute it all to Calvin. Some of the words Calvin uses are pretty advanced, and she was always reading the comics and asking me what they meant. They’re now part of her daily vocabulary. Kind of the same way I learned about Opera from Bugs Bunny… (Remember “The Barber of Seville”?)

This strip, along with the original Bloom Country strips (by Berke Breathed) are my two favorite of all time. I’ve got all the C&H and B.C. books. Foxtrot runs a close third, by the way.

Regards,

T.

I have many of the Calvin and HObbes books.

As as single guy, I always related to Calvin’s imagination and his made-up games with Hobbes, and the give and take between the two at night-time … when the mosters under the bed announce their presence, and the craziness that follows.

As a dad of 3, including a 6yo son, my favorite are the exchanges between dad and Calvin regarding the dad “slipping in the polls” regarding this position as “dad”. I can appreciate and find humor in how serious Calvin presents the polls and how nonchalent the dad takes them. It’s very reflective and illustrative of the relationship.

I was just thinking…I have 6 C&H books on my shelf right next to me, …but not on my shelf at work! ; ^ )

Thank you for the link. I have to admit, both Calvin and Hobbes have been inspirational in one form or another during my 20s.

“You’ll never get ahead in life if you just lay around all day!!”

Hobbes looks up. “Get ahead? Who are we racing?”

Some other favorites include writer’s block…a wooden block you put on your desk so that you are unable to write, “Bat’s are bugs,” Calvin Ball, and anything and everything that was transmogrified.

Dad:What story would you like tonight? We can read anything except…
Calvin:“Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie”!
Dad:NO! No Hamster Huey tonight! We’ve read that book a million times! I want Hamster Huey! Look, you KNOW how the story goes! You’ve memorized the whole thing! It’s the same story every day!
Calvin:I WANT HAMSTER HUEY!
Hobbes:Wow, the story was different
THAT time! Do you think the townsfolk will ever find Hamster Huey’s
head?

I want to play CalvinBall with my camp kids but I don’t think they’d quite get it. And I’d wind up with crying children…

I love C+H. When my brother and I were little, we’d set “traps” for babysitters, trying to torment them in the same way that Calvin and Hobbes did Rosalyn. Playing Houdidi was a favorite, but always backfired as the babysitter could always tie better knots than we could.

I have all the books, and scrapbooks of newspaper strips. Actually, between those and all the Harry Potter books, there’s little space on my dorm-room bookshelf for textbooks :stuck_out_tongue:

There are several that indicate that Calvin’s dad was a triathlete. Or at least a cyclist and runner. I have a few in my office where he is going on about heart rate on the bike, etc.

You forgot The Far Side, right???

Actually, I really enjoyed Fox Trot too. I’m not too crazy about the Sunday only edition…It doesn’t seem to be as good now. Unfortunately, the same can be said of Berke Breathed’s “new” strip.

Majestic. A work of humor and grace rarely seen.

I looooove Calvin and Hobbes. My wife bought me the hardback, complete 3-volume set. I read 'em all every holiday season. I wanted to name my first son Calvin, but the spousal unit nixed it.

Comics today pretty much suck, except for Foxtrot, Frazz, and Get Fuzzy. I long for the days of Bloom County, Far Side, C&H, etc. Sherman’s Lagoon isn’t too bad, but we don’t get it here in Dayton.

Spot

Yeah, there’s one where he’s cycling and talking about the “relaxation” as he’s grinding up a hill working up a seriouis sweat, then he’s talking about the beautiful sceneray as there’s litter all over the side of the road, and another frame where he talks about the fresh air as a muffler-impaired truck passes him leaving fumes all over the place, etc … then he gets home and says “nothing like a good ride … for my health” (or something like that).
