Some of the ladies in my AG shrieked when they jumped in the water. I found the choppiness more annoying than the temperature, but I did think it felt colder than tremblant. As a point of curiosity, anyone know what the temp measured yesterday?
It was announced as being 17º. Honestly I have no idea why people were getting pulled—everyone I saw who was pulled was wearing a wetsuit. Did you do the Oly? I’ve heard people say it was choppy, but I felt nothing in the sprint.
Yes, I did the oly. I didn’t realize there were people pulled out of the water… But I did notice in the results that some folks didn’t have any splits showing past the swim. Was it in the sprint or oly that you saw people being pulled?
I saw people being pulled in the oly. There were a couple right at the start (one guy got in the water then immediately exited), and I saw the boat come back with a handful of people on it. It was unfortunate to see.
I did the olympic in the 5th (blue cap) wave. I saw one guy pulled in the first boat when I went past - he was sitting, looking cold. Nothing after that, but it’s not really something I would pay much attention to. I saw a few without wetsuits. The water felt cold when I first jumped in, but I got used to it. 17deg seems too warm to me.
It probably didn’t help that we weren’t allowed in the water until the wave in front had left.
Cheers!
That IS really unfortunate. I noticed someone came all the way from Brazil for the Pan Am cup, and didn’t have any splits registered after the swim… she must have had trouble. I took a hit to the face that split my cheek and knocked my goggles off (maybe someone’s gps watch?), so it wasn’t my favourite part of the day. I was disappointed with my slow swim time, but I try to keep some perspective that it could have been worse. The water felt colder to me on Saturday than on Sunday – and I agree that 17 degrees sounds a little optimistic. I saw someone dunk a device on a pole into the water right at the start wall where a bunch of us were treading water. Maybe someone peed on the thermometer.
