Anyone know quick fix for balky 10 spd shifter?

My right side rear Ultegra 10 speed shifter (one and a half years old) has become slow and hesitant on shifting down to the last 3 or 4 outer gears (smallest cogs). At first I thought it was cable tension, but my LBS checked it and said it was the shifter. They sprayed some cleaner (not sure what) into the shifter, it seemed to work better for about an hour, but now it’s back to being balky.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quick fix? I’m going to IM Canada in a week.

Check the housing. The cables may seem to run smoth inside giving the impression that it is the shifter. But if the housing is frayed on the inside, your shifting will stick and be choppy. Worth a try to see?
