Anyone in Houston?

Thinking about relocating. What’s the Tri scene like?

Go to runnertriathletenews.com and look at the calendar. Lots of multisport all year long in TX OK an LA. Check out houstonracing. com , local tri club. Good running stores and bike shops as well.
Only real problem no hills to speak of in the immediate area. A 2 hour trip to the hill country can remedy that however. Yes, I am a native Texan.

Good Luck

I’m in Houston. Ckeck out www.houstonracing.com for our local club which has over 300 members. You will also find links and lots of info on what is going on with the tri scene.

Thanks guys, I mean y’all.

I hope this is for a job… why else would one choose to move to Houston??

bleh- lived there for 15 years and i wasn’t even a cyclist at the time… one word TRAFFIC. I hope you have a compu trainer b/c if you live in the center of the city the only free (6 hour rides) you are going to get in will be preceeded by a 45 minute to hour long drive. That said if you live on the outskirts i.e. Katy, Woodlands, Pearland or First Colony, you should have easy access to the prairie roads and be able to roll out from your place. The running scene is nice but the humidity in the summer when training for an IM can kill you even at 6am on a Sunday. The swimming is A+ as is the local club… I just cant get over the dinner plate topography, traffic, massive sprawl and rude drivers in their luxury land yacht Ford F-350’s that never see a payload near the capacity the damn thing was built for… except for maybe the 300 lbs. obese driver…

AUSTIN ROCKS!!!

Can’t speek to living there, but there are some great races and people there.

I live in Pearland, commute 20’ each way. I can roll out of my driveway and ride 100+ miles, without repeating any of the course. I think my record is 80 miles without putting my foot down. As soon as you get out of Houston city limits the people and traffic are exceptionally nice. It is hot here, get over it and go out running anyway. Yes, you can train for a marathon any time of the year, it all depends on how much you want it.

The worst part, from a tri perspective is the LBS. There is only one tri-oriented LBS and they are very small and not overly helpful. If you go, find Mike as he is very friendly and very helpful.

Well said.

I live in the Kingwood area and can put in 50+ mile ride with not too big of a problem.

LBS you are referring is not too tri oreinted but they try. Usually well stocked for roadie stuff though.
