Let’s look at it this way - I’m going to talk computers because that’s what I know
In 2003/2004, you could by a HP DL 580 G2, with 16 GB of ram (Kick ass server) and use it as a VMware host with all the fittings, for about 50 large.
Today in 2007, you can by a HP DL 585 G2, with 64 GB of ram (Kick ass server) and use it as a VMware host with all the fittings, for about 38 large.
For sake of discussion, the 580G2 is a flashpoint wheel set, and the 585 G2 is the latest and greatest Zipp thing, Zedtech 99 or whatever. The 585 is the equal to what the 580 was at the time, but now the 580 pales in comparison.
Why has a computer that is equivilant in market space fallen in price 25%, yet wheels increased 36% in the same time frame?
Would you find it acceptable if in 4 years from now you walked into a car dealership and had to pay 36% more for a car - even though it has new bling, then you would have to pay for an equivilant car now?
I wouldn’t - unless inflation has screamed up 36% i’d prefer to pay a price that tracks to inflation - like my salary does - if I’m lucky.
The 2003 wheels have a lot more in common with flashpoints than the current 2007 wheels.
The 2004 wheels were the same price as the ‘03 wheels and they are not 36% worse than the new ones. My 04’ 909’s are the same weight as the new 909’s. I don’t have dimples on the front wheel but I have the same dimples on the back. My dust covers are a pain… but the '07 Zipps are not worth 36% more!

So stay with your 2004s then… utterly pointless moaning.
