I watched, my wife raced. Francois had achilles issues and walked a bunch, went 4:35, maybe 6th or 7th. TB in MT was top 15, I think, maybe better. My wife was 6th and a good PR 5:07. I didn’t meet Andy Pants, but I heard she was there. I don’t know her real name, so I have no idea where she finished.

Gorgeous day, started to get hot. Anyone out there for 6+ hours suffered on many levels. Probably 90 by 1pm, started at 7.

Hey folks,

I saw François just around mile 9, running is second. He was a couple minutes behind overall winner Ben Bigglestone. (I had just past the mile four marker and was starting to hate life and the sun.) I believe that Francois was 7th. Here is a link the results they should be up sometime today. http://www.racecenter.com/troika/index.htm.

From my perspective the day was long and hot. It was a rough day for me. This was my “A” race for the season and I had some high hopes for breaking 5 hours. I had a decent swim and it felt very accurate to me 31 and some change. At about 5 miles into the bike I began getting stomach cramps. The aero position felt horrible as my stomach felt like it was expanding with each pedal revolution. I thought to myself this is going to be a long and painful day. The course was fast but my legs just were not there. I finally started to feel a bit better with about 6 miles to go on the bike and tried to get some calories in me. I finished the bike in about 2:38. I had 1:48 to work with to get me under 5 hours. I knew that it wasn’t going to happen as I sat down lace up my shoes. My heart rate was extremely low so I took off my strap and started running out, telling myself, this is a hot day and you cannot control the weather. A finish will be just fine. The first mile saw 9, then 9:15 then 9:30. I was like holy crap what is wrong with me. I had my fuel belt with 2 10oz bottle of heed and enduralytes in the back and plain water in the 2 7oz bottle up front. I skipped the first aid station and just grabbed some water and poured it over my head. I saw Ben running up front and yelled some encouragement to him (he is a friend of the family). Next I saw Francois and yelled some encouragement as well. The next mile saw me break down even more. I looked down at my legs and there was a nice white grit all over me. I started drinking a cup of Gatorade and some ice water at every station. Everyone was asking me if I was doing ok. I thought I was and just said yea or waved to them. My sister passed me at mile 6 on her way to a PR of 5:15. She asked me if I was ok and I told her I will finish…go run your race. I started to run/walk but when I walked I could hardly walk a straight line so I shuffled. From about the 9 mile marker to the finish I have very little memory of what happened. I know that the race director walked me in and I think I collapsed at the line. 5:50. Two IV’s latter and I was a new man…or at least a very tired one. As a consolation, I took second in the Clydesdale division. Go figure…

I was really impressed with the amount of concern that was out on the run course for me. I do not know the names or the numbers of the people that offered water or gel to me. However, they came up afterwards and asked if I was ok and told me of their little encounter with me. One of the runners said that I ran into the bushes and started hyperventilating. He got the folks to call the med guys and I was 1/2 mile from the finish and they let me walk in. So, thanks to all you great folks out there!

That’s my story.

Francois . . . . AndyPants . . . . Where are you??

AndyPants probably has a travel day today and Francois is probably working. I watched my boyfriend race at Troika and got to meet Francois but not AP.

It was fun to watch Francois leading the race, I rode out onto the run course to give him splits but the lead motorcycle pulled over and told me that if I gave an athlete a time, they would disqualify the athlete. I was pretty suprised, (I always give my boyfriend and other racers splits so I guess I’m a rule breaker) but I need to go look up the USAT rules about it.

Francois was like a celeb at the race, lots of people talking to him even though he was an out-of towner.

I was 16th & 8th in my AG (35-39). My B&R splits are not correct as I lost my timing chip in T1. My final time is correct. Man I wish I could throw down a 2:08 bike!!!

I might have been 4-5 minutes faster but I stopped to help/console a racer who fell right in front of me 1 mile from T2. He was hurt very badly and I was the only one who stopped. It was horrible and I really had no idea what to do. Rant to follow. Great race: Story to follow, too. -TB

Andypants was there and did race. She has a finishing time but I’ll let her tell her story when she gets back on line.

Like a celeb? Is a celeb!
