What I really need os to show the difference between the clean carbon version and the crappy welds onthe aluminum version. I kind of need this soon. thanks
Here you go… Not real close, but you get the idea.

I have the TREK Equinox 11…I could get you pics by tomorrow if it helps?
I’ve looked at this and you get a long of bang for your buck with this bike. Its not light and the welds aren’t pretty but compared to what you could have 2 or 3 years ago this would have been my first novice bike purchase. As always though if you can afford the carbo version and you’re serious about your racing save for the extra bit. Tom D and other retailers may chime in here but you have a massive range of choice in the tri bike market so widen your net and have a good look round…
I am not looking to buy either bike. I am usign them as examples in my research paper. You said it was heavy do you know where i could find the frame weights? I have been tring to get them but no luck. I tried weightweenies.com but found it to be a spam type site. Do I have the wrong adress?
the site is http://weightweenies.starbike.com. dunno if it has the equinox though.
Here is the weightweenies URL
http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings/components.php?type=roadframes
Still no Equinox weights but its not a spam site.
What is your academic paper in ?
That was ot the adress for weight weenins that i was using which would explain the spam. thanks.
The paper is for a graduate class in advanced materials. I am saying that composites will replace aluminum as a major engineering material in the future. I am going into the material science behind both materials and compareing. then i looked at what is beign done to better composites now and what needs to be done beofre they can mainstream. Lastly I am looking at applications where they are emerginging and also ones where both are used like bikes.
Cool. I’ll writing my thesis for my masters soon and mine is on the history and devlopment of the triathlon bicycle…
nice what is your major?
Hmmm, well it’s complicated. I work as a lecturer over in the UK at a university on the south coast. My first degree was in Product Design, my Masters (which I’m doing for fun on the side) will be master in design although it is having a very heavy sports slant to it (every assignmnet I write seems to be bike orientated). My PhD may ned up going the same way… (depending on training !!!)
Can’t tell you about the aluminum Equinox frames, but the carbon frame in size small was 3.5 lbs with headset cups. seatpost binder, and all internally routed cable housings (2 shift and 1 brake) included in the total weight. This was weighed on a pretty accurate digital scale. It should have been within 50 grams.
