Gonna be a hot week! My son is there watching over a few of his students. His Gf is racing the women’s class too.
Been watching all day and not getting much work done. Know a few local riders. My son’s goal was to get to LL this year. He qualified in 5 events at the area qualifier an he went to the Mississippi regional and did really well but not in the top 6. It was a stacked regional and hard to compete against the TX kids. Next year he’ll give it another try and go to two regionals to improve the odds.

Yep …, the southern regions are the hardest.
Ours is the south east and pretty much all the fast kids in the country pic that one since there here for the winter anyways. Which classes did he race? If he’s gets close to the top eight you should sign up for an alternate slot . They almost always pic a few more.
My friend is there spectating. He lives close by and has raced there before.
250C, 250 C Ltd, 250C Jr., 450C and he raced 125C. At the regional, we tossed the 250C and he doesn’t like the 125 and it showed in the results. He was around 12th-15th in his other three classes overall and they take top 6. Some classes had 50 riders and first motos were heat races, same as in Florida and Millville.
The west coast, Pala and Washougal had small gates but they only take 4. Washougal is probably the “easiest” to qualify since it’s late and in the NW. A friend who is about his speed qualified at Washougal and another friend that he keeps up with qualified in 450C in Mississippi. I know he has the speed but I don’t think he was top 15 on any of his starts. At the regionals, that doesn’t get it done. His corner speed and ruts have really picked up this year, so hopefully next year he can get it done. Basically, you need to be a B rider to qualify in the C class.

Yep starts are key in these sprint races specially c class. If he’s good at cornering try using a paddle tire like a dunlap mx-11 or mx-12 . They push a little in the corners if your hard on the throttle but they are amazing for starts especially on intermediat to soft terrain. I noticed Jett Lawrence used one today at the ranch. Most of the pro’s had them on too at the Florida National WW ranch.
