The delta is a couple thousand.
Regardless of numbers being split, I would justify the amount you’re asking for based on reasons for how you got to that valuation. It costs A, this costs B, so your asking C is entirely reasonable.
To the extent possible, making fact based justifiable arguments has usually worked well (for me).
Whenever countered with a lower amount that is completely unreasonable, never comeback with something in the middle. This just moves them in the direction they wish to go: lower.
Always counter with a higher figure than the original.
Also: never take my advice on anything other than ice cream and electricity. I’m mostly otherwise dumb…

This just reminds me of something in my last job before I retired.
I had a salary plus car with full private use package. CEO said it was fine for my wife to drive the car too.
They started eroding that by saying wife could not use the car now (so we had to buy her one) & increasingly making me pay for some of the car costs. This all came about because one previous disgruntled employee who was utterly useless and ultimately did not have her contract renewed was friends with the new (clueless) Chairman & started whinging to him that my wife was driving the car.
So after conceding to three demands on the car which cost me $’s, one day my (very reasonable & funny) CEO said “look, the finance committee have said to me they want you to now pay 50% of the car costs” to which I replied “you can tell the finance committee to get f***ed”.
And that was the end of the ‘negotiation’ ![]()
