my wife and I are planning on driving up from San Diego. We are going to stay the night Friday night and spend the day somewhere near the start/finish. Not sure exactly where yet.
Anyone interested in doing a little ST get-together to cheer Slowman on?
I am planning on it. My office is a few blocks from the start/finish, and only 4 or so from the Olive straightaway, so plan on getting there for the triathlete round, then staying a bit for the pros. Unfortunately, I stupidly agreed to a family thing in Solvang that night at 7, so I have to leave before it ends (now I wish the TT was back in Solvang )
Cool idea. I’ll be there. For parking, I think if you get there early enough as in early morning or the evening before you should be okay, but be prepared to do some walking. Since you’re up in the LA area, also think about heading out to Thousand Oaks for the final stage. Make a weekend out of it.
Parking, I have no idea. I am going to park in my bldg. I assume you are not staying downtown?
There seem to be a lot of public parking areas in/around Staples. If you are getting there early and staying until the end, probably best just to pick one and go with it. Might be better getting out finding one west of the 110 and walking the couple blocks to the race.
It starts up the hill from me in Nevada city and goes through Auburn where I live. Trying to decide if I watch or even consider going down to Sacramento to watch the finish. Trying to see what is the big deal.
Another option, depending on where you are staying is to take public transport, there’s a blue line station right there. If I wasn’t going uot of town, that’s what I’d be doing
I’m heading up from San Diego on Saturday morning as well. Going to bring my beach cruiser as I expect parking to be a nightmare, and want to stay mobile to get some good shots. Fortunately it looks like there are going to be a lot of great locations to see the riders going in each direction. Looks like an awesome route.
and click on the map for the stations with a park-and-ride (i think on this map it is the black-dot stations).
The blue line takes you right to the Staples Center front door… you can park for free next to a station and hop the train for $1.25 each way or $5 for a convenient day-pass which gets you on the other lines or the metro buses as well…
me an a bunch of friends are heading up from Long Beach (Willow Station has a nice multi-story parking garage right next to the train)… only takes about 30 minutes or so to get up to Staples…
anyone from the san diego area…i am in vista…if anyone has room i would like to tag along…gas money will be donated.
if there are enough people i have a 12 person, really nice and comfortable NEW E-350 van. if people want to carpool here i’d be down to drive a whole lot of people up. otherwise i would like to ride with someone.
Don’t mean to hijack, but is anyone headed to the time trial from Riverside, CA? I suppose I can always take the Metrorail in a pinch, but it’d be great to travel with someone (reimbursing for part or even all of the gas).
