i will be racing and expect to get there 10 days before the race and stay in auckland for a few days and them move to taupo. anyone as recommendation for cheap accomodation in taupo or have a extra bed for a really nice french canadian!!! i will be interested.

i m traveling alone…i usualy have some homestay provided by races but there isnt any from the race organiser so i guess anything cheap…just looking for a place to sleep that is quiet. will be great to stay wiht other athlete if anyone as a spare place.
I stayed here once, our cabin had double bed and 2x bunks, TV, table/chairs, kettle, fridge. Shared communal kitchen. Cabin/Unit had plenty of room for the other half’s bike etc. Plenny of room for the 2 of us. http://www.taupoallseasons.co.nz/location.htm

for your needs, i think you’ll do best by connecting into the taupo visitor’s center. there ought to be a link on the IMNZ site. they’re really good, efficient, friendly, etc. you tell them how much you want to pay, where (as best you know), and so on, and they’ll come back with the closest lodging they have to those requirements.

I have friends who own a B&B in Taupo, but don’t rent it out much, so it’s usually nice and quiet. A 5 minute bike ride from where the expo is and a short run down to where you can swim in the lake. PM me if you are interested in their contact info. Not sure of their rates, but it’s not too expensive.
