Anyone get an eo swim better?

How did things go with your zoom call?

Full disclosure. Iā€™ve hardly used them over the past few months - and considering the cost and no doubt benefit is a bit of a waste on my part.

Ive just been concentrating on my workouts from my coach and adding these to the swim just felt like it was over complicating things.

Sorry if that wasnā€™t the answer you wanted. After my next 70.3 Iā€™m going to get in the pool and just do a bit less structured swims and plan on using them then.

I 100% understand

This is what has stopped me from pulling the trigger on buying them

Concerned I wouldnā€™t put in the time to use them properly

@thetrickster - just wondering if you did go back to the swimbetter sensors or let the subscription lapse? There is a 20% sale on at moment and Iā€™ve been considering them for a while. My swimming is frustrating as hell. In the pool Iā€™m able to hold about 1:40. 1:32-1:33 when drafting. In a paddles set then I get pushed to front of the lane and without really pushing then I swim off the front. Open water = last week in a 750m I ended up 30s behind someone thatā€™s a 1:45 pool swimmer and in training am way off the usual people I swim with. So Iā€™m struggling to understand the issues with my stroke. Video from an endless pool, and coach is puzzled too.
Which version did you get? The 15min seems very short, but I canā€™t fathom the huge increase in cost for the longer memory.

Hi Duncan,

I paid for another years subscription and will be using them more over the winter. I got the bigger capacity ones as like you didnā€™t understand the 15mins ones. I paid a lot for them, so will trying and get some benefit from them. Time will tell.

You do have to stop / start them for each set to get decent data (no point letting them record while youā€™re resting) so maybe the 15mins are enough for looking at precise intervals.

Happy to share some screen shots of the dashboard and anything else you want. Drop me a PM.

I too am thinking about getting them

As a side note your pool swim not relating to your open water

Are you able to swim a length with eyes closed and finish pretty close to where you should end up? Meaning swimming basically a straight line with your eyes closed?

Does the EO work well in the Endless Pool setting? Anyone use them in the EP setting?

We did an OW drill where we closed our eyes and did 50 strokes. First time I opened my eyes and was pointing right back at the beach weā€™d started from. Second time I opened them and was straight out to sea. Awesome. Then heard the far too loud giggles from coach and crew as Iā€™d swum a full 360 the other way.

That said my actual OW swims are straight. Iā€™m pretty good at sighting efficiently and regularly.

But specific answer, whilst I bi-laterally breathe, (I do also prefer to breathe left) I do deviate even in a pool.

I confound the coaches, I kick really strongly in kick drills, nail paddle sets, am pretty good (as in can do as intended showing correct form) at doing all the drills yet put it together and Iā€™m stereotype AOS MOP/BOPer. Oh, and 6ā€™4" 83kg size 13/48 feet, then biomechanically I should have all the advantage. Only things against me are my height is all in my legs, so they do need that kick to keep high, and my white men canā€™t dance rhythm and co-ordination,

OK. I was on the point of buying, had it in the basket, hand measured.

But then had a chat to my coaches (tri and swim), and looked for any last bit of feedback from actual users, then decided to hold off. Itā€™s a decent chunk of cash, and clearly you need to use it to get value from that. And I canā€™t find anyone that has got one and then used consistently. Life has got in the way, and as I was about to click ā€˜buyā€™ then I could see the swim cords out the corner of my eye that barely got used for a few weeks.
I swim 3-4 squads a week, so not massive amounts but well in the ā€˜consistent for a triathleteā€™ range.
If I could have shared the use around a few people (not even all that worried about the $) it may have been more of a hedge, but seemed it would cost people at least $20 membership to have a single month of use, and that would mean people wanting/needing sole use in that month. So not really something we could share in sessions.
This is 100% to share my thinking openly, I know the team have posted on this thread, so hopefully this feedback is helpful. I saw a lot (and I mean a lotā€¦) of instaposts with all the (sponsored?) athletes using them. That didnā€™t move me at all, but the lack of ā€˜realā€™ people stories did.
One final thing - I couldnā€™t work out if I let the membership lapse, and then restarted it would my data still be there. Ie if I did 3 months of focussed use, then perhaps did pass to someone else in the squad for a couple of months, then come back at the end of the season as I focussed again on technique, could I see previous years data?
