Anyone Familiar with Velocity Spartacus

Anyone familiar with the Velocity Spartacus Wheels? I made the decision (mistake) several years ago before my wife started racing tri’s to get a bike with the same size wheels (650’s) now we are both racing and only have one set of race wheels. I would like to get her a 303 and 404, but can not financially swing it right now. I thought a pair of the Velocity’s at $275 for the pair might be a good stop gap until I can move up. Currently I will be on a pair of 28 and 32 spoke Mavic box rims with 105 hubs, so anything will be an improvement.

I really like my set of Velocities and have turned a few of my friends onto them as well. Really good price point and quality. I have had a few different Velocity wheel sets adn have never had a serious issue. Any problems i have had were taken care of immediatley with theeir customer service. Really good company. I would not hesitate to reccomend that set for training or racing.

My first tri bike came with Velocity Deep V 650 wheels. Never had a problem. Now I’m moving up to 700, I recently bought a pair of new Spartacus wheels. Try downtube.com, I paid $155 (bid on ebay). If you’re not too heavy, try chucksbikes.com, also under $200 for the pair (16/20 spokes). Also, I will be selling a set of 650 Deep V wheels soon.

i own a velocity spartacus front wheel. Lighter than the rolf it replaces with a slightly deeper rim. All in all I like the wheel more than my rolfs

Just picked up a set of Spartacus from SpinLite for $160 (price is now $175), no problems so far. Seems to be a solid wheel for the $. Good luck

Haven’t tried the paired-spoke wheels. I think these use Velocity’s deep-V rim. I have a pair that is conventionally laced. If I had only one set of wheels these would be it. They are not the lightest but seem to be really strong. I’ve ridden a lot of bad roads and they stay true. If you move up to a better wheel later, the Velocity’s would be great for training.
