I applied for the lottery back in January, but some things have come up since then that would make it extremely difficult financially should I acually get in. If I do win the lottery, I’m sure I would find a way to make it work, but I don’t know how at this point. I just feel that if (when!) my name ever gets drawn, it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity that I could not turn down. The only other way I would make it to Kona is if a slot miraculously rolled down 100 places. I can dream, right?
Is it really a once-in-a-lifetime thing, though? Has anyone on this board ever won more than once? I would be thrilled to get in one time - I can’t imagine being lucky enough for it to happen again!
I have a friend that has gotten a lottery slot twice. Also, he qualified two other times.

The odds aren’t that tiny for winning a slot via the lottery. I have heard of many people who’ve won slots two or more times, sometimes in back to back years. But I think that if you won one, it’d definitely be worth trying to do everything possible to take advantage of it. People do all sorts of things to raise money to gamek it to Kona. It’s not cheap, but you can minimize costs if you are smart and plan things out early…good luck!
