Two recent threads (one on HED 3rd brake shortcomings, one on putting real brakes on your aerobars and removing the bullhorns completely) got me thinking.
Has anyone ever tried putting road STI levers on their aerobars? Then you could shift and brake in your aero position, not have the problems with the HED 3rd brake, etc.
Cable routing would be interesting, but beyond that, anyone ever tried it?
If you do such a thing, make sure you wear a large sign so that I know who you are and can stay far away from you as I believe it would be unsafe.
if you do want to modulate speed from the aero bars, there are accessory brake levers that can be mounted to the aero bars. They are used in addition to normal brake levers–smae principle as the bar-top accessory levers available for cyclocross. You would use the normal levers as your primary means of stopping and for speed control in technical situations or when cornering.
