Anyone else trying to lose weight this new year? Share how here

Well - its time - you may recall the 30 lbs in 30 days post last fall - needless to say it failed miserably - anyway - new year - new plan - trying professional weight management program with the wife this time - dropped 15 lbs so far - still need to drop 20 more - high protein, low (not no) complex carbs - eating little an often - seems to be working by scale and belt loops - once I get down to weight - will slowly increase carb intake - metabolism somehow has morphed into completely incapable of processing carbs - particularly the beer kind!!! Working out for an hour or less in the mornings before work, running occasionally at lunch.

Anyway - shooting for Silverman in the fall - hope to be in shape to start training by the spring - how are you losing yours?

eating 5-6 times a day and started lifting 3 times a week. Over 40 and amazing how just 3 weeks of lifting makes a difference in my day

The lifting will get some hackles up here - but for me too however - its amazing how some lifting makes you feel better, tighter, stronger - I’m also trying to focus on my core too to help my low back, and it is really helping.

I lost 5lbs for the marathon this january.

I did it by eating a bit less

Put the fork down and eat only what you can get through a straw.

??? r u serious? - A liquid diet - of what???

Breastfeeding. It’s the most amazing weight loss tool ever.

you’re an ass - funny - but still an ass
.

No, I am not serious.

It seems that you are doing okay. Depending on where you live or how accessible a gym is to your work place, maybe an hour in gym doing some light weight lifting or an outdoor run.

It sounds like you’ve got a pretty good handle on it. Your pant size and energy level will tell you everything you need to know.

Good luck

Simple really… like in training, consistency yields results.

4 weeks of training - 6 days/week - 2x a day 5 out of the 6

No dieting per se, just eating healthier and monitoring portions. Lots of water, less beer :frowning:

  • I’ve lost 7 lbs.

weight lifting is a great way to drop the pounds, it does help a huge amount if you super set your lifts. Im sure you know what this means so no need to spend a page explaining it, but it keeps the heart rate up and builds muscle. I lost some serious weight combining cardio 7days a week and supersetting with 5 sets of 12-15 with 6 different lifts each day. i super set 2 lifts at a time and hit core hard also. good luck!

sorry u guessed wrong - can u define superset?

It is doing two sets of a different exercise back to back. You can do same muscles or different muscles.

Curls/Pulls with no rest.
Bench/Flies with no rest

You can superset pretty much anything. It makes your workouts faster & you keep your HR up through out the lift. It is hard to do in a busy gym unless you like being that guy taking up many pieces of equipment. It is also hard as your muscles are doing more in a row than just one set.

To the OP, I’m just training and eating healthy (save the cheese grits this AM).

The best way to loose weight is to train for an Ironman. You can eat what ever you want and still loose the pounds.

You want to loose weight gradually not quickly. Why place your health at risk?

I’ve found since the begining of the 100/100 that I can loose weight by going 30 minutes run each day…easy!! I was not loosing weight by going fast and hard. Slow and easy, keep my heart rate down and I loose weight. I’ve dropped from 188 to 177 in 5 weeks. 7 more to go.

I had jaw surgery. Lost 10 pounds in less than 1 week. Now that I can eat soft foods, I put 3 lbs back on. I can see how staying away from the chips is beneficial. Overall, I would recommend increasing exercise over the surgery

x2 on the jaw surgery. Obviously not practical, but 6.5 weeks wired shut and down about 25 pounds. Its an instant “detox” from breads, pastas, etc… I don’t really have the desire to eat anything other than vegetables and lean meat after not having any for about 2 months.

Sadly I lost a lot of muscle mass in those 25 pounds.

Best way for me has always been free weights at the gym and more time swimming.

Lots of long, slow training, and frequent small meals rather than infrequent big ones - I eat 8 or 9 times a day. The meals should be healthy: if you crave candy or cake, eat fruit. Eat whole food, not refined stuff; lean meats. Before the winter got extreme here in Manitoba, I would run trails and quad tracks for 100 minutes at an easy pace, about 4 times a week (sometimes broken up into lunchtime and after-work runs), and do longer runs - 3-5 hours - on the weekend, as well as MTBing. I managed to lose about 13 pounds between August and December. Unfortunately I’ve now got the habit of snacking when extreme winter weather has curtailed that volume of training - so I’ve managed to put some weight back on. Skiing and swimming are fun, and allow you to remain very fit, though I find that they stimulate my appetite a lot more than easy running. Group bike trainer sessions are more bearable than doing it on your own - I’ve taken to bringing rollers to these! And the kind of short intense work I can do in the gym - since I can’t stand to be in there long enough to do real endurance work - just tires me so my overall training volume drops, and eventually I feel like eating half a pig. So, no magic bullet. j

I have lost 8 lbs in the last three weeks by just eating health again and watching my portion sizes. I have been sick for the last week (kids bring home the worst germs) which has actually helped as that seems to be a natural appetite killer. Looking to loose the 20-25 lbs that I gained while out with a bad ankle injury that kept me from doing pretty much anything for 6 months and the fact that I had no will power during that time. Also the birth of my daughter during that time and no sleep did not help.

I think the first 10 lbs will be easy by just eating better but the next 10-15 lbs will be the tough ones which if I can get back to running, should not be that tough. Running for me is where I loose most of my weight. If I can run 4 times a week and get my weekend mileage up to half marathon distance again, this will really help. A couple of 10km runs during the week and one short fast run seem with the longer weekend run, seem to get the weight dropped very fast.

So the goal was 10 lbs in the first month and then 10-15 over the next two months which I think is doable with a return to training.
