Anyone else training for Kona completely smashed?

That’s all, just looking for company. I’m tired.

i’m not completely trashed but not completly recovered from imc either. ran 50 minutes yesterday at a fairly easy pace, and this morning my legs felt like i had run two hours. this will be my first time ever at kona so am pretty excited and i think that masks some of the imc fatigue at times. no worries, it’ll only get better

I’ll try and restrain my sympathy for you. Boo hoo, you are going to Hawaii to the big dance, poor guy.

It’s funny, everyone’s always asking if I’m excited. I’m too tired to be excited, I’m sure that will come once October rolls around but I keep looking at the plan I’ve laid out and there’s still lot’s of work to do!

Nah, I feel pretty good. I figure it’s better to go into Lulu’s Sunday night a little under-trained rather than over-trained ; )

If you want, I will train for the next month for you and you can just take it easy. Then fly me out to hawaii and on race day I will tell you how good of shape you should be in and you just race.

You’re not going to get any sympathy from those who would love to race Hawaii. And you’re not gonna get any sympathy from me and those who had to do an Ironman to qualify, mister 70.3!!!

I’m not “completely smashed”, I think it’s a little too early for that. But it’s coming. Maybe it’s here, and I just don’t know it yet. Either way, i’m more excited for the after party ;^)

I figured you’d chime in!!
Not looking for sympathy, and believe me I’m excited for the post-race party too! To be honest, I actually would have liked to have raced a full IM during the summer. Would have broken things up nicely. I haven’t raced since July so I entered a small Oly this weekend to change gears a bit.
I guess “completely smashed” may be a bit much at this point, I’m still feeling solid while training, just tired at all other times.
J-mo’s coming up next weekend for a couple of days of training, it’s not too late for you to drive the 6 hours across the border!

And i’m sure j-mo will chime in as well. Actually, the gf asked me what you 2 were up to and if I was going to be able to train up there, but after the long drive and the total disaster that was Timberman, i’m better off down here. She’s very much looking foward to seeing you guys, and meeting your lovely wife.

I remember Luke Bell saying something about how ‘The Ironman guys aren’t as much fun to hang out with as the shorter distance guys, because we’re tired allll the time.’ So that means you’re on track! Imagine being a qualifier from Canada or Louisville! 2 Ironmans in 6 weeks, ouch.

well, i have to say i m feeling pretty dam well right now!!! i took some time off and went camping, visit a few citys in colorado and now that i m 12lbs over weight, i think it s time for me to get back into it.

so, i think it s time for you to eat more chocolat cake and ice cream, it s been proven by many of my scientific researchs to be very positive in your performance! just be carefull, you dont want to over do it!!!

keep the good work!!! and like shawn said, you definitly dont want to show up at the Lulu’s overtrain…better be rested…

Atleast the guys who Q’d at IMC or Lou have been resting for the last couple of weeks!
I can’t imagine getting back into it though…maybe that’s why Jonnyo gained 12lbs, motivation to get his ass back out the door.
Jonny, hopefully we’ll get a chance to chat, likely before the race though. From what I’ve heard you’ll be too busy at Lulu’s cuttin’ a rug and impressing the womens.

Ian,
I am very much sure that you’ll have a great race in Hawaii. I am sorry though that it’ll be the first time in 10 years for me not to be there to support you and all others who race there.

Have fun these last weeks.

Herbert

son, training drunk will not help you get to Kona. Now HTFU and get out there and train. More is more.

Hey, I’ve already made it…as Shawn said, now it’s all about the after-party. You can’t just waltz into Lulu’s without a little preparation and expect it to go well…no one likes a triathlete who can’t hold his liquor.

Training for Kona has been going well and I’m pretty sure I can sustain under 6-min pace between the Pier and Lava Java. I’ve also been practicing in the mirror “I’m not doing the race but I biked the course today” without laughing, hopefully I’ll be able to pull it off in Kona.

Hah, I thought the same thing when I read the topic. I’m not doing Kona, still too slow for that. But I am doing the GFT the next weekend (I think) and I am in the same boat. Took this week off as a rest week because my legs were really demolished. I feel great now after taking 3 days off and doing an easy 20 mile ride last night. Back to the hard stuff this weekend!

I’m in the same boat - Doing Kona for the first time and it’s more of a feeling of I can’t wait until this is over than a feeling of excitement. I’m sure I’ll be excited once I get there.
