I’m sorry, I have to say this - but I’m really tired of the attention she’s getting in all the OLN coverage…they even had her giving commentary after the stage race today, what gives?
Maybe I’m just sour that Kristen was never given that attention, but I can’t handle it when they are all starstruck by her - what about all the other great stories out there! Lance’s girlfriend shouldn’t be overshadowing the other great stories out there…
This is her first tour…and yeah, it’s celebrity type story - but I’d rather have Bob and Al and even the Cutters going on about more insightful stuff rather than listen to her for a second longer…
This is what happens as things get more popular. First it’s a bunch of comercials, then its “this moment brought to you by-------” then it’s all down hill when it makes just enough money for one of the big networkds to take it on, then they really ruin it with John Tesh volcanic end of the world voice over. Because the audience needs to be educated on every aspect and then the damb thing is one long sappy songed highlight of the Trek athelete of the nanosecond. Then the ratings plumet and our sport dissapears off the face of the planet cause the new rate to the now gutted OLN is to cost prohibitive. Just call it the Nike Cheryl Crow Show and She can sing a TDF folk song as they race. Damb the pop culture, pretty soon they’ll get a trio of bafoons to spice up pretty good racing just to make it interesting to the few passing NASCAR fans and MTVers.
Actually, I thought it was pretty cool. How many celebrities talk about bike racing and riding their bike? Makes me curious how much riding she does. One thing I noticed is she looked pretty small next to Bob.
I enjoyed her interview today. She comes off as a down to earth alternative gal. My kind of a lady. I like her a lot.
Her and Lance do seem like a bit of an odd ball couple. For a start she’s ten years older than him and has no athletic background but as her favorite song of mine says “If it makes you happy”.
I was starting to get those same feelings, pissed that they’re making such big fuss over her, then something changed my mind. Sheryl Crow is a huge music star and I’m sure not many of her loyal fans know anything about cycling but are probably now starting to take note of who her new beau is and what she’s doing in Europe in July (laundering team uniforms and handing out musette bags) and that he’s an American dominating a traditonally European sport. Thus…American cycling may get a boost from this. Some of her fans may go out and buy bikes, start riding to work or to the 7-11 store, start entering local events or even, gasp, triathlons! Which means we’re not just a bunch of leg-shaving-lycra-wearing-obsessive-compulsive-crazies they throw beer cans and cigarette butts at when they drive by (not saying that all of her fans do that).
An article in todays paper said that she biked up Alpe de Huez (sp?) without getting off her bike. Pretty cool in my opinion. I thought she smoked though, I don’t know how Armstrong could tolerate it.
I never said anything about Robin Williams…but if we were going to go there, he was at least there since the beginning…hell, even Michael J. Fox was there for a few tours.
I don’t think the publicity is bad…not at all. I just would like to have more commentary from others in the know…save the shots of Sheryl congratulating Lance at the end of the day and leave the commentary to those that could add something to the mix.
I also don’t think that it’s anything special that there is a celebrity at the Tour…she was there for some of the classics but no one seemed to care…now when the lights are shining bright, we have to cater to the stars…
I’d like to suggest an extended interview with Haven Hamilton…or even a segment on his dog Tugboat…both would be more entertaining.
Why is she a bad celebrity? I doubt she’s getting anything out of the interviews other than trying to be friendly. And it doesn’t seem like she’s purposely trying to seek the spotlight.
I get the impression that she just sings about smoking. Lest we forget that song lyrics aren’t necessarily a true story.
I know Jewel sings about smoking. Pretty sure she doesn’t either.
Could be wrong though, but I don’t see Lance tolerating it, so I have to assume it is just makes for good lyrics.
Personally, I think she’s fine (not FINNNNEEEE, but just fine). The difference between her and Kirsten? Kirsten probably didn’t want to sit with Al and Bob and probably would not have been nearly as comfortable with a microphone and a camera in her face.
I think the tour has been pretty entertaining so far. I’ve watched exactly zero other television since it started. Sort of like sex. Even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
I know we like to complain in this forum. However, let’s not complain about the advertisements or commercials. For anyone who knows business, you need sponsors, or advertising dollars to support such programs like the TDF.
Regarding Sheryl Crow…whatever brings this sport more attention and more dollars. We are long overdue for better publicity. I don’t know who Jan Ullrich’s girlfriend/wife is, however, I doubt she’s as hot as Sheryl or as famous? That is why she’s being interviewed. If Tyler Hamilton dated Paris Hilton, you would see her up there. Just be thankful no one dates Chelsea Clinton…I would hate to see her everyday.
they can interview cheryl crow anytime and i’ll watch. she’s great. who knows if she’s a wack-job or not. her music is great, she’s bright, looks good and is rich!! not a bad combo. good interview today, too. old al trautwig and bob roll looked like they were both in need of bibs from drueling(sp).
