Ok, so I live in one of the hottest places ever, (Central FL). During the summer, @ 150 bpm, I can roughly hold a scorching 12:30 pace. Now, since the weather has buckled into the 50’s, I’m more like 10:30 and not even sweating.
Anyone else have serious swings in performance with a mere 30 degree temperature difference?
Yup - sounds about normal. Viriginia muggy summers could do me in. The problem is worse if you tend to the large size (was still a clydesdale this summer). Simply put, your thermoregulation is not as effective if you are bigger. All exercise elevates your core body temp, but the more mass you have the harder it is to cool it. That is one sure way to elevate your heartbeat.
And I certainly hope you are sweating, otherwise your hydration is out. You will dry faster in the cooler temps and may not notice the sweat, but you should be sweating.
