Any thoughts?.
Did it last year (I believe it was the inaugural race). Here’s what I can tell you. The swim - last year, the wind was blowing into shore pretty strong and there were 4’ swells/whitecaps out there and lots of debris being blown into shore. They wisely shortened the swim for the 1/2 - if it was 1K, I’d be surprised. The bike - nice course - windy, but mostly cross/tailwinds for most of it. The last 8-9 miles were directly into the wind heading back to the park. Roads were generally good, one big hill right out of transition (you ran up it as well). At least one intersection was unmanned (I got a dirty look from some Farmer John when I turned in front of him). The run - great! You run up the same big hill you ride - it’s within the first 0.5 mile of the course - actually, I found it helpful to get the legs to switch gears. After that, it was mostly singletrack trails for about 5 miles and then back onto roads for the remainder. I’m pretty sure it was a little short based on my split. I understand they’ve changed both the swim (more sheltered marina) and run courses (now a double loop). I had a blast and I’d do it again if I didn’t have 2 weddings to attend that day. Hope that helps, and good luck to ya if you go.
