I put that one on the calenday, june 12th. Anyone has feedback on the race for me?
I did the Rocky Mountain Prestige Half in Cranbrook last year since it was the same weekend, but quite a few of my friends did the Sylvan Half and they said it was really well run. Both of these Halfs were in their ‘first annual’ stage and they wil only get better. Pros show up to both since there is good prize money.
You can’t go wrong with either of these races, they are put on by race directors that really understand what we as racers want. Leave it on your calendar, it’s worth it.
EDIT: (Holy crap… I thought you said Sylvan Half… I didn’t notice you had that ‘ia’ on the end until I posted…sorry)

This is a new race this year (that’s Sylvania, OH- right?). You might get some feedback from people who’ve done the Sylvania Tri, which is later in the year, but I don’t how similar the courses are, and the race companies are different. Let us know what you find out.

Oh… I didn’t know it was new… I know it’s close by, that’s why I was looking into it. Let’s see what people say about it. Are you thinking about doing it?
Yeah, it’s close to me too, which is why I was lookng at it as well. Unfortunately for me an injury has left me unable to run for the last two months, so a HIM in 7 weeks is out (as is my plan for IMLP probably, we’ll see). From what I recall, the organizer is new but I think is affiliated with HFP racing, they seem to have a really good repuation, although I’ve never done any of their races. The other race I was looking at was the Little Smokies 1/2 two weeks earlier, which has gotten pretty good reviews here.

New race this year. HFP Racing does a really nice job, it should be well run. It will be very flat though.
I might be doing it, if so it will be a “training day” for me too early in the season to be anything else. I have it listed as an alternative to a oly a week a head.
I’ve done the Sylvania Olympic tri. It’s really, really flat. Even by comparison with SE Michigan flat. The race itself was very well run by Elite Endeavors. I’m not sure if they are running the half IM or not.
i’m considering it based on how my foot heals. I’ve heard it should be a fast course, but it will be a training day for me.
I am doing it. According to the race director, the bike will now be a two lap course. The run will be one lap. It will be fun. First year race but there should be a lot of support for the race and a good turnout. Olander pond is normally 70 degrees in June. Very calm since it is a small pond. The bike will be flat and expect the wind out of the west. The run will probably take you into some neighborhoods and traffic should not be a problem on the busy roads. Hope to see everyone in Sylvania in June (unless you are fast).
Hey Marisol - I’m considering this as well. That, Muncie and Great Buckeye are some nice local 1/2 IM. Smokies is a great race, but really hilly.
I did the Great Buckeye last year, I really liked it. This year I am going to do a new one at Alum Creek, from the same guys who put on Powerman Ohio http://www.fatrabbitracing.com/events/FRR/default.asp
Yeah, saw that as well. I think I want to do the Great Buckeye again though. I had a decent race until the run (my strength) when I melted in the heat and the hills (twice). Shannon (from HFP) sure seems to like some hills to separate the crowds! The one at East Fork last year was unbelievable - I saw at least 20-30 people walking up it (now we are talking fairly decent bikers here) and I could barely turn the cranks myself (18-24% grade at times if I’m not mistaken).
Tell me about it, I was about 40 minutes off my 1/2 marathon time at Great Buckeye. You won’t catch me dead at East Fork.
