Just a quick check to see who is going to be doing the Rio Salado Tri tomorrow. I will be doing the event and am very excited. I love the way that they let you finish the race and then watch the pros. I think that is a great format and allows the age groupers to have some fun after they finish instead of having the pros finish before they even get their. It should be interesting to see how the heat affects the pros!!!
We were there, I thought it was an awsome format. It’s my first time viewing an ITU points race. It was so neat to see our local guys in the mix. What did you think about it David?
Loved every minute of it! I crashed on my final lap of the bike. Ran into a Keep Left sign while passing an Athena women who must have thought that I was saying move left in stead of passing on your left. Ohh well! Lovin’ the road rash this morning. I loved watching the pros after my wounds were healed up. I can’t wait for next years event!
i think the swim was a bit short and i know the bike was. there could have been a few more volunteers at various points on the course where there was some confusion–especially on the run. i had a slight issue on the swim as the directions weren’t quite clear and there was no paddler to let me know i was off course. as a result, i ended up cutting the course and having to sit there in the water for about 30 seconds as a penalty…
I agree that both the swim and the bike were a bit short. I enjoyed the race very much, but it gets frustrating that so many of the races I’ve done are not measured accurately. I know it must be difficult to pin down the swim distance, but bike and run shouldn’t be an issue. My bike computer (of questionable calibration itself) recorded 23.8 miles.
i think the distance you had on your computer was pretty much the general consensus from what i heard from people. don’t have a clue as to the swim distance other than saying that the fastest split was 15 something which is ludicrous. probably 150-200 meters short.
you’d think w/ gps the swim would be dead on. I did a tri for several years where the RD clipped a milk jub into a loop on the rope every 100m. Made for the perfect out n back 1500m swim. I think the bike leg is the hardest to get correct. The run should be easy, just adjust the finish line a bit.
