Anyone doing the Atlantic Coast Triathlon?

I am doing it as a tune-up for IMFL. All the complains about drafting on this forum, yet this half has only about 200 signed up so far. Looks like a great course at a great venue. I’m looking forward to it. http://www.drcsports.com/races/act/raceinfo.shtml

Hey, I live here! I’m doing the Ameliaman (same day but it’s the Olympic) as a warm-up for B2B half. I can tell you that I have done an event or 2 with DRC sports and they are pretty good. The venue is pretty nice, and the run is through Fort Clinch which is shaded. On the events that I participated in, there were maybe one or two draft marshals, a couple guys were drafting off me (I didn’t even realize it) in the last one and someone yelled at them to break it up, I don’t think any penalties were given out to them but then again I didn’t check the penalty list. All in all, good venue, shaded run, pretty good bike course. I think you should do it!

What’s the water tempature look like? Will we be wearing wetsuits?

The beginning and middle of October we usually see water temps around 76 degrees, which is wetsuit legal. I’d be surprised if this race wasn’t wetsuit legal but don’t rule it out completely.

I’m doing that race as a tune up for IMAZ. Looking forward to (hopefully) a bit cooler than it’s been in S. Florida. I did 2 halfs this year before IM Switzerland (Sarasota and Disney) and both were HOT HOT HOT. Just booked a good deal at the Days Inn. $59 if you mention you are doing the race.

Count 4 from Boca Raton driving up to do the race, hoping for cooler temps than we’ve had down here as well!

Really looking forward to it.

I am doing this race and it will be my first 70.3. I did a sprint with DRC earlier this year and it seemed well organized. I did see some drafting on the sprint, but I did not see any marshals to stop it.

We’re here and it couldn’t look better today, hope the weather stays good for tomorrow. The Atlantic Ocean looks like a lake right now, but is borderline for wetsuits from everything I can research, looks like it’ll be a gametime decision.

Good luck to all racing!

We have been here since Monday. It was hot on Monday but has cooled down a lot. The weather looks like it will be great. From there website it looks like they take temp readings from national data bouy center number 41112. If that is the case there would have to be a decent temp shift for it not to be wetsuit legal. This is my first 70.3 and getting a bit anxious. I will head down to registration around 3:30.

I thought this was a great race for a local, nonMdot. Swim was well organized, bike course was nice and traffic control was great, run was very nice. My SRM showed the bike course a bit long and my garmin showed the run a bit long, but no biggie. I had to drive home pretty much right after the race, so I would like to see them post the results. I will do this race again next year if it fits the training plan.

The results are posted. I did the race and thought it was great. I have done several MDOT races and this was a super race at a fabulous venue. I will be back. Far better venue than Florida 70.3 and with only a little more than 200 finishers, no excuse for drafting. Ocean swim and great bike and run courses.

We all agree from down south, what a great race. I was a bit worried at the info session that it would be an unorganized race but everything went off without a hitch. The swim was perfect and flat (some dolphins out there too! though none would give me a ride) the bike was nice and scenic at parts, spanish moss hanging off the trees, etc and the run in the park was great, that shade was really necessary with temps in the mid 80s. My only complaint is that every road in Amelia Island is uphill and into the wind! Great race, great volunteers, I’ll be back next year.
