Anybody using the Nike Air Zoom Marathoner

Anybody using this shoe for HIM-IM distance racing? Thoughts, likes, dislikes?

Thanks!

Not sure about HIM or IM, but for a 1/2 or full marathon, it’s gold. This shoe is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn for these distances. The material on the top of the foot feels awesome and it seems no matter how tight you tie the laces, you do not even notice. Of course it’s light weight. I highly recommend.

Awesome thanks for the advice, that seems to be the general feedback im getting.

How did they fit you? True to size or size up? I’m normally a 11.5 but had to get DS trainers in a 12 if that helps at all.

I did not care for them. I do not like a ton of cushion, but, want some. This shoe felt like it had nothing in the fore-foot. I am a mid-foot striker, so, was not worried about the air in the heel. However, this shoe was very uncomfortable for me and made my feet sore on longer runs.

I switched to the Nike Air Miler, which was a totally awesome shoe. Perfect cushion and flex to give padding, but allow a “feel” of the road. Unfortunately, Nike discountinued the shoe.

Switched to Nike Air Skylon. Even better than the Miler. Best shoe I have worn so far. Have done one HIM in them and plan on doing IMWI in them. Great flexibility and feel. Perfect amount of cushion in the sole and in the correct places for a mid-foot striker.

Nikes run narrow, which is perfect for me b/c I have a narrow foot. They fit true to size (but do run slightly narrow).

Switched to Nike Air Skylon. … Best shoe I have worn so far.

i agree. i’ve done all of my IMs and 1/2 IMs in these. they said they were going to quit making them, so i bought two pair mhy last round. i hope that was idle chatter, and that they keep making them. they’re just right for me—cushion, but i just don’t notice them. and that’s a high compliment for a shoe in a long race.

I’ve used it once on a double-oly and got out full of bruises. My review is: too light and too flat for long distance racing. I did have a good run though.

I use them for Oly distance and love them. I have used them in one HIM and found from about mile 10 that the forefoot cushioning didn’t seem to be working so good (probably my technique slipping mind). I had several tiny blisters on the balls of both feet after the race - and I wore socks. I weigh 150lbs (6ft tall) so it’s not like I’m too heavy for them… I now use Air-zoom elite for longer than oly stuff.

Quit making them? They just released them! I really hope that is not true. However, this is my big frustration with Nike – too many models with too short a life. Seems like they have too many models and, as a result, keep killing them off and coming up with new ones just for the sake of having numerous models.

I bought 2 pair about 6 weeks ago or so, but, I think I will go out this weekend and get one more, just in case.

Basically ditto with what JSA said, not enough fore foot cushioning especially if you a re a mid foot striker.

I race in very cushiony but heavy air max 360’s that I love, but I keep blowing out the plastic window which is getting expensive. Will definitely be looking into the Air Skylon.

Peace,
RF

the nike air skylon is for everywhere around the world… but if you live in the us… it s call the nike air zoom hayward… they are pretty much the same shoe and probably the best neutral running shoes i ever had. I run all my training in them and racing and ironman also… i love them!!!

they wont stop making them, they just switch name back and forth but the shoe is still in production, i have 8 pairs right now!!!

JSA - Jonnyo - Et Al,

Are the rave reviews for a fore foot cushioing shoe for:

the air zoom skylon http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/product/product.jsp?id=NIK1130&prfc=8&sc=CDM-06008&PartnerName=Nextag&NG_urlID=29980529

the air skylon 3 http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/product/product.jsp?id=NIK724&prfc=8&sc=CDM-06008&PartnerName=Nextag&NG_urlID=9017126

or some other skylon.

Thanks,
RF

I believe he was taking about the Air Skylon TC which was a racing flat version of the Skylon. I use the Skylon TC in all my ironman marathons and never had any issues. I used the Marathoner at Boston and Chicago and felt that the forefoot cushioning wasn’t that great. Also got tiny blisters where there are holes in the bottom of the shoe. Great for up to a half ironman/half marathon but I wouldn’t use in them in a marathon or an ironman marathon.

I shoes I have, which I wrote about, is the Nike Air Zoom Skylon. It says “Air Zoom Skylon” on the “trim” on either side of the heel.

This is different than the Skylon 3 (which I have never tried and have only seen online).

My shoe shop said the Air Zoom Skylon replaced the Hayward (sp?) that Jonnyo mentioned, but, I would take that with a grain of salt. I have no idea whether that is true and would defer to what Jonnyo said.

Many thanks.

Cool thats good to hear thanks guys, i was a little worried about the forfoot cushioning, I guees no need to risk it for IM.

Hey Jonnyo, how does the Hayward fit? Pretty neutral or is it narrow like lots of nikes? Thanks!

no but for mid/forefoot strikers (like me) the asics gel nimbus is golden. plus the shallow toebox keeps your toes nice and flat and secure. the air in the forefoot is key.

Jonnyo - Did you see that Robert Cheruiyot won Boston yesterday wearing a pair of Hayward 3+? He supposedly saw them at the expo and decided he liked them.
