Anybody take Flax Seed Oil

Should endurance athletes take Flax oil daily or capsules.

I started taking it because apparently now there is some evidence that it helps actually burn bad fat and reduces inflammation, from some study in Western Ontario. Then I read a piece last night which said that Fish Oil was better for Omega 6 because Flax has to convert Omega 3 to Omega 6, and some people aren’t able to do that. I have no idea, I do know that in my gym, all the power lifters put Flax seed oil in their shakes and what not.

I don’t take flax seed oil but I do eat 2 tablespoons of flax seeds a day. The advantage of the seed is you get fiber, protein and lignans as well as the omega 3’s (actually alpha-linolenic acid). Your body will convert the alpha-linolenic acid to EPA. Forget the oil and eat the seeds. You need to grind the seeds into meal before you eat them or better yet, just by flaxseed meal.

I bought some about a week and a half ago based on reading some of the information that you mentioned. It doesn’t cost very much so I figure I would give it a try … I figure that it is just one small step towards improving the quality of my food intake so I don’t think that I will see any big differences from it alone.

I take it on my doctor’s recommendation for HDL/LDL management.

if your ever gonna switch to marine(fish) oils, make sure they are molecular filtered as you could increase your mercury levels real quick
.

Actually the term is MOLECULARLY DISTILLED for fish oil.

The Omega 3’s in fish oil are longer chained and more readily used. If I understand it correctly, the Omega 3’s in the flaxseed oil are shorter chains and require more 'processing’by the body to long chained Omega 3’s for optimum use.

by the way, I take some of each.

I pour a little in my daily morning smoothie along with whey protein, soy milk, bananas, blueberries, strawberries and cherries. Delicious and very healthy plus the perfect recovery drink after a hard workout. Lots of carbs, protein, and antioxidants as well as omega 3s.
