this is how you successfully demonstrate that you’re vaccinated, and don’t need to be in quarantine, nor to present a negative covid test.
i’ve tried and failed to get this done both on my desktop and my smart phone. in each case, the app won’t accept an online signature (it asks for it, but doesn’t accept it). the app also promises to, but fails to in practice, accept CommonPass credentials. the telephone number for tech support does not get answered. i’ve got a number of emails out to several people throughout the islands who work at hawaii’s CVB, awaiting any of them to refer me to someone who will help.
but i always have my best tech support help here on this forum. have you guys gotten thru that process? because, for those here who’re going to hawaii, and who like me are vaccinated sheeple, this is the process through which we’ll probably go to make sure we don’t fall afoul of some sort of airport blockade. btw, i’ve got a similar set of problems negotiating the online sites of foreign countries. these sites seems to be really buggy and very hard to get to work. but i’m asking now about the hawaii site.
I heard there was an update today, so maybe it was broken?
there are 3 steps to this, once you’ve set up a user/pass:
you load in a “trip” and the trip consists of when you’re arriving/leaving, the airline, where you’re staying, the address. you can “pre-load” a trip, as in, i have my trip pre-loaded now, even tho it’s not occurring until october.
you establish your vaccine credentials. you either do this by uploading your proof of vaccine, or you invoke your CommonPass credentials (letting CommonPass be your proof of vaccination). it is my assumption you can also pre-load this.
you fill out your health questionnaire, which you cannot do until you’re within 24hr of the trip.
i’m stuck, now, on #2. i can’t successfully execute the proof of vaccination, either on the site itself, by uploading proof of vaccine, etc., nor by invoking CommonPass. i can execute everything, upload the documents, but i cannot “sign”. there is no way for me to sign. i’ve tried both on a desktop and handheld. the site won’t accept my signature. when i try to use CommonPass, i copy and paste the CommonPass ID into the appropriate field, and the site then says, “this Exception Approval ID is not valid.”
yes, i’m a couple of months out, but i want to navigate all of this successfully well in advance, so that i can write informatively about this for others. so far, strike three i’m out.
No, but I had a similar ordeal with Clear Pass for Usatf In Oregon. It just never worked, so I brought a hard copy (xerox) of my vax card. Other people had problems too and had screenshotted their cards to their phones. In the end they didn’t ask to see them anyway…so…I suspect they had so many problems with it that they just gave up.
I’ve found different sites responding better to these inquiries on different browsers (e.g., the State Department site for passport status is best on Chrome, but my NH COVID related stuff is Firefox, and VT on Safari).
The site is wonky. It worked for me, my wife had trouble. When I showed her what I did it worked fine. She is smarter than me so something just doesn’t work sometimes.
One thing: when you are LAX get your wristband as soon as you get to the gate. They don’t announce that you need to get one and people get to the ticket agent before they are told. Stupid airlines.
I’m from hawaii and had to use it coming back from TN in June. I had trouble with it at the signature portion. It would just kick me back out.
So, what I finally figured out is that your “trip” is only the transpacific flight. If you’re flying from somewhere to the west coast and then to Hawaii you need to enter only that flight and not your final destination if you need to catch in inter-island flight.
Not sure if that’s your problem but that’s what it was for me when trying to get through the digital signature portion.
Unfortunately, I won’t be of any help. I did just set up my account and went to put in my trip. They want the address of where you are staying. If you are renting a house, most places don’t give that to you until 7-10 days before your trip. And you can’t put in a trip without the address. And you can’t upload your vaccine card without a trip. Not a huge deal but leaves a bit of concern waiting until a week before. Gonna try to get the address earlier but thought others might want to know as well.
I was able to get through it a couple if weeks ago. it was difficult as the site is definitely wonky. Especially, the signature portion. Unfortunately, I don’t have any magic advice. I just kept messing with it until it finally “accepted†my sig. FWIW I was eventually successful using my iPhone.

i used chrome, but the website says chrome’s good. i ran into the same problem, tho, on my iphone. so, safari as well.
Successfully used SafeTravels for a party of 7. 5 adults and 2 kids. All but the youngest used the vaccine exemption. Youngest not eligible and used the testing exemption.
created the trip about 10 days prior to travel. Though you do have to put an address in, it doesn’t have to be exact (as we didn’t know the exact address until 24 hours out. I understood the address to be critical if you are going to quarantine).
every adult has to create their own account. Minors can be added to one of the adults
signatures: the thing we found is that you have to sign all three places for it to accept. There’s a signature box in the middle that seems like it is only relevant if you have minors. Once we started all signing there, we were good.
we flew on Alaskan airlines and they asked for the original vaccination cards and a paper copy of the negative test.
once you have the wristband (received prior to your flight to hawaii — not at the beginning of the trip unless you only have one flight) you don’t have to anything else once in Hawaii. We just grabbed our bags and rental car.

you’re right on the signature boxes. you’ve got to sign everything, including the one that appears only relevant if you’re executing the form on behalf of a minor. but the big thing, beyond this, is:
my own failure to understand this i guess, if you’re on a desktop you have to drag your clicked mouse into a signature. you depress the clicker, constantly, with the cursor in the text box. drag a signature. which is kind of tough for me because i’m left handed and i mouse with my right hand. but whatever.
when you click ACCEPT signature, there is no obvious action the site takes to acknowledge that your sig got accepted.
anyway, here is the cheat sheet on signatures i was just sent, because i’m apparently not to the only one who fell afoul of the signature instructions.
This is probably not helpful to your issue but I did travel to Hawaii back in May. I didn’t need to be vaccinated but required a negative test with 72 hours of arriving. Since I wasn’t fully vaccinated at the time, I did require an additional test when I arrived. Luckily it was just the swab to the nose and not the one that is jammed into your brain.
Unless things have changed, there were different rules for different islands and traveling between the islands. Some required additional tests and others did not. It was all very confusing but luckily for me my wife took up the task of navigating all the regulations.
I do recall the website being cumbersome and not user-friendly but didn’t run into any specific issues that couldn’t be resolved.
Good luck! The travel was stressful, but Hawaii was very relaxed and enjoyable once we got there.
So slowman is going to Kona !!! Is there a Kaloko climb? if so I have to get my travel act together!
Does Hawaii recognize Astrazeneca+Pfizer combo as fully vaccinated or will I need to get another shot of Pfizer?
Dev, Peaman and Hawaii Cycling Club put on the Kaloko climb this past weekend - where were you?
Hawaii only recognizes US-approved vaccines administered in the US (and US territories), according to Hawaii DOH’s FAQs - AZ is not approved in the US. So you have to do the pre-travel test through a trusted partner.

Aloha,

I tried but I got booted out of Hawaii on account of showing up with the Canuckistani approved Astrazeneca+Pfizer combo. They told me I could get on the next plane home or just hop in the ocean and starting swimming back to vancouver to get a flight to Ottawa, so I took the latter option. I am texting from the hump of a whale who took sympathy of me and brought me into cell phone coverage range keeping up with an overhead United flight’s wifi connection

I’m sure you were, as you Canucks always are, exceedingly polite during the entire episode.
