Hi you guys I am running out of luck looking for a disc to trade for. While looking for a cheap 909 or 999 disc…I found a place that builds wheel covers (www.wheelbuilder.com).
They look very reputable and make covers for zipps to in turn simulate the disc. I am not as much looking for info about the company as I am the idea of wheel covers to make a disc. It sounds alright and they say they have research to backup the fact that it is just as fast as a normal disc.
yeah they a fine, and actually i have one for an 808 that i am not going to use, but can’t return since the center hole on the drive train side was hollowed out for my hub.
75 shipped. its 90 on the site. it was delivered on wednesday last week.
Dude do a search and you’ll find more than you ever wanted to know about wheelcovers and wheelbuilder.com. Wheelbuilder sells the CH Aero cover and if you call them and they will cut it to fit any wheel you have for a few bucks extra. The thing works perfectly and their service is excellent. I’ve owned two of the covers and have put them through quite a few Tris and TTs with no issues. Just a guess but probably one of the best aero upgrades you can get for the $$.
Dude it’s about time your bitchass made it to slowtwitch…I ran 8 miles and called you, where were you??? Then, you send me a text message like 3 hours later??? hahaha you should be running or doing bike/run bricks for Louisville??? Are you ever gonna do a long brick or just wait till Louisville??? Anyway, you might check out wheelbuilder.com. A lot cheaper than a disc and I am getting a hold of some research that might even prove that it is as quick a 999 or 909.
i got one a few weeks ago… for my 808 rear… i m amaze by it… it s amazing and i cant understand why someone would be a disc when you gave have a 2 for 1 808 and disc cover… and the disc cover on 808 as tested very well…equal to better than the normal zipp disc…
anyway, i have very limited experience with it… about 400km but i m simply amaze by it… got it pre cut from wheelbuilder, i love it more than the zipp or reen or hed disc i rode before…more comfy and smoother on the road
Old news. A search will reveal I’ve probably made more thumbs up posts about this product than anybody beginning about five or six years ago. They work. Why wouldn’t they? A disc is a disc is a disc.
Nice find - although I already knew about it since I am the “quad” model on the main page holding the wheel. PSYCHE. I wish. Maybe they’re onto something - if after training your quads to look rock solid like that you STILL need more speed, then by all means buy our wheels!
PS. I think the quad model is a female. PSYCHE AGAIN!
It might be “legalized cheating” since the rules clearly state that no NON-STRUCTURAL fairing, etc. may be added to the bike to improve aerodynamics. I know these have been used a thousand times and work just like a disc, but I’m still not sure how they don’t violate that rule? Anyone?
Sure as hell beats spending 1500 for the zipp disc which is the only one I would even consider buying besides the Renn. The Zipp is the lightest one and only the Renn comes close in weight (if you even want to call it close.) Have not looked at the Bontrager yet. But…I know the Heds are heavy.
Good point about the HED Jets (although I think there is a big diff between that and a wheel “cover”), but I think one could extrapolate “bike” to include the wheels since it is pretty hard to go without them

Are you talking about USAT rules? Permission to use a wheel cover is implied in 5.11(g):
5.11(g) …Wheel covers shall only be permitted on the rear wheel.
Idle Question: Why would you put a disc wheelcover on a Zipp 808, rather than, say, a Zipp 202, and save a whole bunch of weight? I can’t imagine that the “aero-ness” of an 808 is really all that important under a disc wheel cover. Any thoughts?
yes, the disc cover is only over the spoke and attach to the first part of the rim giving it the very special shape of the clincher zipp disc or bontrager new disc that is very good…
also, you have the perfect wheel for hawaii, a 808 and a disc for anything else… what a triathlete would do with a 202??? play frisbee with it?
so yeah, i do beleive the 808 shape with disc cover is better than the 202 with a cover over it… remember the cover dosnt go over the 808 rim, only the spoke
also, remember weight is as important as the color of your bike …NOT AT ALL.

I’m only referring to your comment that “NON-STRUCTURAL fairing(s)” are not allowed, not that they are similar to covers.
Regarding the definition of bike it just depends on how the rule is written and what the definition of “bike” is in the rules. In that regard I looked at the rule, and it provides:
*5.11(e) There must be no protective shield, fairing, or other device on any part of the bicycle (including frame, wheels, handlebars, chain wheel, and accessories) which has the effect of reducing resistance. *
As written it specifies that “bicycle” includes the wheels, so I’d say that they don’t consider the non-structural carbon on the HED Jets a “fairing, or other device” since those wheels have been used for over twenty years without objection. Logically if the HED’s were classified as fairings then it would open up things like the FSA K-Force Aero TT Chainring, which is a carbon-faired chainring, to scrutiny as well.
Maybe “NOT AT ALL” in the flatlands, but here at 9600’ with looooong climbs, the 202 would offer a benefit. But the explanation about how the wheel cover attaches to the rim makes sense.
