So I was sick with a cold and decided to take a couple days off from exercise… was incredibly depressed the whole two days. Today being day 2, I went to bed at 8pm, then woke up 2 hours ago and ran a half marathon just on a spur of the moment impulse. I peaked into windows of guys wives and their teenage daughters cause I enjoy creeping up the neighborhood too. JK on last part.
Longest i’ve ever ran without stopping was 9 miles. Anybody ever get these incredible spurts of energy at weird times?
Yup. I try to avoid doing the run, since it totally messes up my sleep schedule, and the next day at work kinda sucks. I felt like crap all day today, but could totally go for a run now.
During one of my marathon training schedules I had to miss a long run, so I moved it to a Tuesday. I got up at 3:30 in the morning and ran 18 to make sure I could fit it in before work …
Not really impulse since it was planned, but everyone still thought I was insane.
I don’t think he went swimming and biking, just a run.
To the OP- I’ve gone running in the middle of the night. It might have been in college. And I could have been drinking. It’s possible that I had misplaced my clothes somewhere. I’m pretty sure it was nowhere near 13 miles but I also didn’t have my Garmin. So, who knows?
All of last year I use to train from 2am-6am. It was awesome, no traffic, no lights to wait on, but the coyotes were kind of eh. It never gets easy though I’ll say that much…
i woke up once at 3am and knew i wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep so went out for a 90-minute ride. not a lot of people up at that time where I live so I’m sure those that did see me out on the country roads thought I was alittle nuts!! got back home and was able to get 1-hour sleep before the family got up.
In the USAF, we’d go TDY somewhere that was five or more time zones different from “home”. There were lot’s of times where I’d be wide awake in the middle of the night. I never ran a half marathon, but I’d go out and run intervals on a track. It a track wasn’t available, I’d run intervals up and down a street.
Love the late night runs. Especially after a day of chicken wings and beer I can do a run and get the runs at the same time late at night.
Seriously though, I used to go out and do 10+mi at midnight in the summer when I didn’t have class early the next morning. It was quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. I loved it. I’ll also go run sometimes after a night of drinking when I know I’m going to be hungover. A 20min run is painful as hell when you’re still kindof drunk, but you throw up and sweat a lot and then you don’t have a hangover after, it’s worth it.
Our boy dog used to wake up at 3am needing to go outside. Since I get up at 4:30 normally I just went running. Spent most of the summer doing runs at 3am. Unfortunately Chicagoland is miserably humid overnight even if the temps are cooler.
