Anybody Else Do Nathan's in Tempe Today?

Temperature was hotter than would normally expected, but overall, I thought the race was well-run. Watching for my time on the website tonight since I totally screwed up my own timekeeping. I wasn’t crazy about the one-lane turnarounds on the bike…but much better than last year with only 2 loops for the Oly instead of 4. Would like to hear what others thought.

I was there today doing the Oly. I thought everything was pretty well run. Red Rock usually does a pretty good job running their events. The turnarounds are always like that for races in Tempe. SOMA has something like 4-5 turnarounds per lap. I didn’t feel like they were too narrow though. There was one at Tempe International up on College Ave that was really narrow, so anything is better than that.

There was only one turn that I thought was a little too tight. The bikes riding 3 abreast ahead of me practically came to a complete stop the first time I hit it.

BTW, the results are posted now.

I was there watching some friends compete and have a question: We were watching around the bike transition and my friend pointed out pro Lewis Elliot leaving on his bike and he had a Zipp disc on the rear. He came back into transition with a dinky road rear wheel on. One spectator mentioned he flatted and didn’t carry spare parts for smaller races. How did he not get DQ’ed from eventually winning it when someone else gave him a new wheel out on the course?

I think that Landis Cyclery provides a wagon for on course support, but I stand to be corrected on that point.

Can you please provide a link that states that outside assistance results in a DQ?
