Did it about 10 years ago while in high school. Hardest race I’ve ever run. I know there are plenty of people on this board from SoCal; thought I’d check to see if anybody did it and how they did.

Slowman, Souza, the Seagull, and yours truly did the race this morning. Up at 4:30am, 1 1/2 hour drive, and just about the toughest thing I’ve ever done. Definately the toughest run I’ve ever done. 8 miles up, and over 4000 ft of climbing, with a finish above 10,000 ft. It’s so steep at the top, that every elite runner has to walk.
Souza bombed up the mountain in 1:14 for 2nd in the age group, and 8th overall. Slowman went 1:29:35 and got about 5th in the AG. I went 1:32+, but the real suprise was the Seagull. Primarily a swimmer/biker, she took 3rd overall woman and smoked the course. Looked like over 600 athletes, and a lot of those offbeat ultra runner types. The view at the top is absolutely the best in SO. Cal., and the real suprise is that you have to run down most of the way to get back. Can you say, “Quadlock??”
All in all, a great grass roots event that has been going on for 40 years now. Lots of triathletes there, and a race where you really get your monies worth…
Yeah, I remember finishing and thinking “Wait, how do they get us down from here?” They don’t mention you have to do another 4 miles, with a descent of 2,000’+ to make it back to the ski lifts. Definitely a cool race though. Unbelievable that an 11 year old Carrie Garritson went 1:11 on that course. I’ve heard that Ebiner, who has the CR at just over an hour didn’t run the entire way either. Have I met the Seagull? Don’t think I’ve ever heard that nickname.
