I was going to be staying in Mission Bay this upcoming weekend (arriving on Saturday evening) and was wondering if anyone knew of any swim clubs I could join to get in an open swim. I’ve never swam in the ocean, but I was told that I should always have a buddy. If not, I suppose I could always stay inside the Bay. It seems to be very calm, but again is this a good idea to swim alone. Thanks.

I don’t’ know of any open water swim clubs in the area, but if you check out the Tri club of San diego they have several during the week at various places in the county. I don’t think they do it in Mission bay though… not super clean water. Or, you can probably stop by the La Jolla Cove any time and find someone that will go out with you… very popular open water swimming location, people going out at all times. Buddy system is a good one as long as your buddy isn’t going to drown…
