Been working out in the Park on weekends, and I know there must be some ST’ers there too. (Usually have the crazy eyes…)
I usually am there Sat Mornings starting at 8am, park at the intersection of Lake Welch & Seven Lakes near Lake Sebago. Do the loop going up Seven Lakes, down Tiorati, and back up Lake Welch Drive. Love the hill back up to the which is constant with no shade from the sun. Maybe see you there…
Harriman is my favorite place for training. Usually park near lake Skannatati (Seven Lakes Dr, .5 mile N from Kanawauke Circle). Workouts depend on season - trail and off trail runs, biking, road run. Biking is usually 2 loops followed by 3-6 miles run. I’m planning to go for 28 miles run (2 loops clockwise) this Saturday.
My wife and I train up there just about every weekend. Try this loop: Coming down 7-Lakes a few miles from Tiorati, turn right at the circle (I think the road is 106, but I might have the road name wrong). Go straight and the road will become 17A. About a mile after the bottom of the hill, you will see a sign for the Sterling Forest Visitor’s Center. Turn left towards the visitor’s center and there is a nice road with good surface, little traffic, and less climbing so you can spend some time in your aerobars. Stop at the visitor’s center for some water refills and a bathroom brake. Continue down the road and make a u-turn at the Woodlands Townhouse complex and then go back the way you came into Harriman. If you do this with a loop of Harriman, it is 45-miles. 2-loops of this is really nice for Ironman training and 1-loop plus an extra loop of Harriman is really nice for 1/2 IM training.
Thanks Jon,
Yeah I am still exploring the roads out there will definitely have to try that one too. The next time out I’m going to try the loop out the opposite way going up Gate Hill Road, (off 7 lakes) past the back side of lake welch, make a left at the fork (near the camp) and past the mc-mansions, over the palisades and back down rte 47 to willow road which becomes Gate Hill when you pass under the palisades and back to Seven lakes. Will have to get the milage on it, but estimating around 15-17 miles for this loop.
Got a slow moving P2C, looking to overhaul the engine, and Harriman is the place to do it.
