Any RaceReports from Macon?

I couldn’t make it to the Rock&RollMan 1/2 this weekend. Had to work. How was it? They like it hot down there, combined with the rollers, makes for a pretty tough course. Looks like they were pretty strict with the time penalties. I guess it was mostly for staying within half-a-mile of the rider if front. Just curious.

I was there. It is a great venue and the course is definitely challenging and fun.

The rain from Tropical Storm Barry Saturday afternoon meant that we had to leave our bikes overnight in the rain :-(The chip mat after the swim was ~2min uphill from the edge of the water, which means that all of the swim times on the website were really faster than what the chip measured.I’m glad that they decided to switch to Gatorade Endurance instead of the Cytomax that they initially mentioned on the web page. The heat was not too bad until later in the run.Good food at the post race party.

I was there also.
Good Swim - The lake and course was awesome. Only problem they started us 50+ year olds in the back so I had to swim through alot of people.
Good Bike - The bike course was great, very little traffic, excellent course markings and people at all turns. I saw very little drafting.
Run - Death March - Nutrition and heat = sick. Walked quite a bit. Finished in 5:49 for my PW at 1/2 IM. But learned a few more lessons. Had a great weekend, I thought the course was great training for Louisville.
Setupevents puts on a great race. The post race food was by Outback which was good. The awards were pretty awesome too. Small custom painted Fender Guitar’s with a little stand holding them. Probably one of the best awards I’ve seen from a small race.

Tough day for me. Swim started great. Not too crowded, maintained easy pace, out of water on schedule. 45 min into bike stomach did not want anything in it. Beautiful but somewhat hilly bike course. Wore my new LG aero helmet for the first time, gave me a bad headache. Glad to get off bike but stomach issues really slowed me down - 15 minutes slower than plan. Started the run at the same time the heat/humidity picked up. Stomach still not cooperating. Ended up getting very dehydrated. Walk/stumble most the run. Should have visited the med tent after race but too embarrased by time and hit the road instead. My wife told me I cant do IMF now because of how bad I looked after the Macon race. I think she is coming around on that now. Georgia Multisports did a great job. The aid stations on the run were well stocked with many volunteers.

The good news is that the rain really knocked down the smoke from the fires down south.

Congrats to all. Obviously, races don’t always, or ever, goes as we plan. Take what the day has in store and do the best you can with it. Tri’s are supposed to be hard. We’ve all heard this one: if it were easy, anyone could do it (and I probably wouldn’t be doing it!). So, Good Job…recover… and get back to it.
