I own a 2003 DA 700 and and very happy with it. I have purchased a new DA carbon and wondering if anyone has encountered any problems and if so, how they were fixed. Problems can include during the build up and after while riding.
I am in a similar situation. I made another thread about felts quality, so far good reviews.
here it is:
Thanks for you input. The quality I know is there, I’m just on the look out for any of those “new frame and fork bugs” Matter how good the reputation of the compnay, there is bound to be those bugs in a first generation frame.
So far so good for me. Really love the bike! Only problem I had was trying to build the frame with Campy and the DA has Durace in mind. Oh and give the headset thing a check after the first ride and the bearings settle in.
For sure. I’ve heard about the rear brake… can be tricky being in front of the rear wheel and hard to get to.??
Hard to get to I can deal with, but it has to be durace or whatever brake they use on the B2. Campy brakes won’t work because they won’t clear the crank arm. I joke with my riding crew that my Felt has the Shimano cancer. It is a small price to pay for one slick lookin rig.
As far as building goes, try to think out everything carefully before you do it. It matters a little more with this bike than others. For example, the crankset should probably be the last thing you install.
Funny you should ask about problems. I just had my first one yesterday. The headset kept coming loose. I went through 3 iterations of tightening it, trying it out for a while and then finding that it was loose again. It’s kind of a pain to tighten because you have to take the whole adjustable stem thing off to really get to it. It looks like the problem is that the big alloy rod/bolt thing that sticks up out of the fork has gotten loose and slipped upward. I noticed this because I was having a hard time getting to the front brake bolt (the vertical rod in the fork has a hole in it but it has moved up so you can’t stick an allen wrench through). Anyhow, the LBS is very supportive and I’m sure they’ll have it sorted out soon. Just something to look out for.

Anyone have any pointers on installing the cables? is it difficult to install the cables?

Cables are easier than on any other bike. You just push them through the nicely labelled holes and they come out in the right place. Just in case it isn’t obvious, the cable housing goes through the holes (not just the inner wires).

Thanks, so does the housing go all the way through the frame?? internal cables is the one thing ive never done on a bike, that and install headset cups
EDIT: i saw a video that said the housing goes all the way through the frame.
So… I got my DA. sweet, started building it up tonight, but ran into two problems:
-
the front derailleur cable keeps slipping off of the guide when I try to shift up. Anyone know how to fix this (I’m using a Sram Force front derailleur)
-
The rear brake doesn’t center…The non drive side is too close to the wheel and is rubbing it, it doesn’t adjust anymore to center it, because it hits the frame… any suggestions? (I’m using a shimano ultegra brake set).
