I tried out Nutella for the first time back when we had that Peanut Butter salmonella (sp ? ) scare .
The stuff is like Crack ! My breakfast is usually oatmeal, bananas, almonds and a teaspoon of Nutella w/ strong black coffee. This keeps me going almost all day.I haven’t used PB since the spring.
How bad is it ? Since the start of my taper, I’ve been off of it and am going thru violent withdrawals . Is it just me ?
Ummm … a few calories and a little bit of sugar
Oh sooo yummy, though. When I was a kid, this stuff used to come in a jar that you could throw away the lid and use as a drinking glass afterwards. 20 years of attrition later and I still have about 30 of those glasses in my cupboard LOL
Have you tried straight hazelnut butter? That’s even worse for the “crack factor” IMHO.
Nutella is fine, but I found a grocery store(Garden Fresh Market) in Chicagoland that carries hazelnut spreads from Israel, Bulgaria, Croatia, along with the more conventional European locations.
It is kind of cool to experience a new one each week.
I like to put the spoon in the spread and then dip it into peanut butter. If I don’t have the spread I use reduced sugar organic preserves from trader joes. My wife doesn’t touch any of the three so I am safe from the double-dipping problem.
You should do Ironman Germany next year. about 50m after the finish line there is a Nutelleria…all the stuff you want with nutella…bread, cookies, crepes, waffles…you name it.
I have a great picture of my daughter when she was about three. She had stolen the nutella jar off the kitchen table and she was in it up to her wrist with a big grin on her face when we caught her. it’s really good with vanilla ice cream rolled up in crepes.
I use it over waffels. For the best taste mix it with peanut butter and spread over a warm waffle.
Oh man…Nutella over whole wheat organic cinnamon waffles after a long run is the bomb !
You recover + get an anti- inflammatory buzz .
OK, I feel better now that I’m not the only one that abuses the stuff.
i really like the taste of it, but the ingredients have trans-fat. that freaks me out so i no longer buy it. if anyone knows of something similar sans trans fats, please make a reco!
