I’ll be there Mon thru Weds nights. I won’t have my bike with me but I will be looking to do some light running. Are there any paths near the waterfront that make for some good runs? The weather looks like it is going to be OK.
Are you sure about the weather? Forecast in Boston is SHITTY the next few…
I guess I was looking at the wrong thing. The weather will be shitty. I will be on the treadmill I guess.
If the weather cooperates, there’s a really nice run that starts on the waterfront (Commercial St.) and goes out to a crushed gravel (3.5 mile) loop around the back bay.
If I remember right, it’s about 1-1.5 mi from the end of Commercial St to the loop. Keep the water to your right as you run from Commercial St. outbound.
Portland is too pretty a place to run indoors unless you absolutely have to!
Its not going to be that bad…just your typical November drizzle and overcast. Definately running weather.
yea, what fenway says…take the eastern prom trail to the back cove loop. really nice loop.
if you have time to run midday (and the weather is not horrible), a group leaves from Peak Performance Sports at 59 Middle st (near commercial) for a 7 miler on Tuesday at 11:50 AM.

Yeah, definitely check out the Back Cove (Back Bay) loop.
Not sure how far you want to run, but the Maine Marathon Course starts on the Back Bay and then goes out over a couple bridges, then through some very pretty roads. Google and you’ll find a course map.
iOT, f you’re in a pizza mood… Ricceta’s in South Portland is EXCELLENT brick oven pizza!

I have run that loop when in town for business last spring and it’s nice. A little hairy getting from the hotel to the loop, particularly on the uneven, brick-paved sidewalks in the rain, but totally do-able.
Depending on the weather and if your schedule is free during the day at all, you could take the ferry to Peaks Island (~15 minutes from Portland). It runs pretty much every hour. A loop around the island is 3.5-4 miles. It will be pretty much empty right now, and the views are stunning. A good portion is within feet of the ocean, so I wouldn’t go for it if it is at all breezy.
There is at least one tri shop in portland. Midcoast Multisport. Here’s the link

They should be able to give you advise. I think they even have group rides and runs during the week too.

having spent many summers way…way up north in Maine - does anyone else find this just… wrong?
Why would this be wrong? I dont get it. I live a couple towns outside of Portland, and I like to have people to train with.

Midcoast Multisport is in Brunswick, isn’t it?
trukweaz would know…
Midcoast has a small (very small) shop on Munjoy hill too (in portland).
Peak Performance is the main player in Portland.
Midcoast in Brunswick is their main store.
