Any news on the 5150 tri series?

Has anyone heard anything? The few confirmed dates on the WTC site list mainly non-US sites for these 2015 races (except Boulder Peak). Hy-Vee has no 2015 date confirmed and PEM (RD) has signaled changes coming in 2015. Does anyone know anything? Will US 5150 cease to exist? Possibly a new tri series coming together (with races from the old series…KS, OH, Galveston and NOLA)??

I think that is what the partnership between lifetime tri and WTC was all about. It replaces 5150, or was going to do so in the near future.

As predicted in the beginning; 5150 was suppose to be 150 races by 2012…really? There was no chance to get that many race produced by a top down company in America. What business plan were they smoking?

In 2015 we will have another company attempting the same thing. Will they have the right plan?

We shall see?

i found it strange at the Galveston 5150 this year that there wasn’t much 5150 around. medals were pretty generic and said “Galveston Triathlon”. The only thing i saw 5150 branded was the awards medals. Those caught me as strange as well since in previous years it was an acrylic “i” trophy with the logo and this year they went with medals instead.

Is lifetime going to do any outdoor tri races where the previous 5150 events were? I thought lifetime tri only did indoor, which is kinda lame.

How is that race? Considering making the sprint my A-Race for next year.

Interesting statement. Are you making this statement based on some knowledge of something specific happening, or simply making a general statement?

patience grasshopper

Wondering if anything has ever emerged on this…

From the Hy-Vee thread just posted…read till the end…may the Force be with us.

Honestly, it’s like they tried to kill it.
2011: First year as nondraft. 5150 series fairly successful. Can’t recall what kind of coverage there was for HyVee though.
2012: series starts to wane, with various races leaving series, others disappearing. HyVee a marquee event, with incredible fields and pretty respectable coverage
2013: cut pro prize purse significantly, remove $5,150 primes for each swim (2x), bike (4x) and run (4x) lap. Pro race no longer separate from amateur race. No more Mini Cooper for amateur winner (the one positive in my opinion). I was racing it that year, so uncertain what coverage there was. I believe I recall my coach telling me there was tolerable live results.
2014: course flooding (outside organizer’s control) alters pro course back to a loop course, but still done early morning, as amateur races changed to a sprint. No coverage anywhere. I had to hunt over Twitter because I was curious, as the live results weren’t even updating

I said this in Twitter the other day in a conversation with you, DD, but I have mixed feelings about Life Time taking over all WTC short course events. It was shitty competition, but at least there was competition for a major non-draft Olympic series with 5150. Major olympic distance triathlons shouldn’t be the red headed stepchild they are.
