Any Movie Worth Seeing?

Possible date night on Saturday (3rd grader gone camping/freshman avoiding parents) - any movies currently playing that are worth seeing? I browsed briefly and Merchant of Venice seems to be about the best bet. Any thoughts on Melinda and Melinda or Upside of Anger?

Are we talking going to the movies or renting something.

Wife and I watched Hero last night (Jet Li film). The cinematography is just stunningly beautiful, nice story of courage, honour and love plus some awesome martial arts swordfights. Not the fastest paced of films, but breathtaking to watch.

Watched Ocean’s 12 last week, entertaining but not as good as the first by a long way.

Are you after action, romance, chick flick or something else?

If you are looking to break up with her take her to see “downfall”. It is the story of the last 10 days of the third riech. Very well acted but a very depressing look at the dark side of life.

A very good date movie is “millions”. About a couple of boys who literally have a milion dollars fall out of the sky and how it changes their life. very cute and entertaining,

Avoid anything that’s been “Critically Acclaimed”

Kung Fu Hustle. Very funny.

Kung Fu Hustle. Very funny.

Should have seen that or Sin City instead of the The Interpretor - boring with a poor storyline that was hard to buy into.

Great new South American restaurant though - ceviche, empanadas, and other delicacies washed down with an excellent chaipirinha!

Has anyone seen Sin City?? I want to see it but need to convince the wife that it would be a good movie.

I want to see Kung Fu hustle - but that will have to be without the wife…

Sin City—FANTASTIC! I knew I’d like it but was relatively sure the wife wouldn’t. So I saw it by myself one afternoon. Its my favorite flick in a long time. Do not wait for the dvd. See it on the big screen. About taking the wife/girl friend, I’m less sure now. It’s that good. But yes it is pretty gross too. But comic book gross, so not as disturbing as if it were realistic. I’m enthused enough about it that I think I’ll take the wife, and since I’ve already seen it, I’ll be happy to leave with her if she doesn’t enjoy it. It is art. That’s for sure.

We just watched 'the Aviator" last night. FANTASTIC. I really did a lot of research on Hughes when I was younger, and man, DiCaprio nailed him. His postures, his expressions, even some of the inflections in his voice. Not to mention Cate Blanchett as Kate Hepburn.

Really good movie. Not the most romantic, but the love affair between Howard and Kate is pretty cool, as is the loyalty of Eva Gardner. My wife told me in no uncertain terms, if she found me naked in the dining room peeing in milk jars, I was on my own.

I loved Sin City. I would not take my my significant other unless I was sure they would like it. I want to see it again. David K
