My Open Pro cracked at the eyelet last summer, replaced it w/an Open Sport since then I’ve had nothing but issues w/my cover rivets rattling loose.
Anybody else experience this? I’m tempted to just find an Open Pro & ditch the Open Sport rim it is that annoying and the rivets are nearly a buck a piece so replacing several times over a season is pretty annoying.
Last bump.
Hopefully somebody else is using an Open Sport that has a solution.
I’m really considering just rebuilding the wheel this winter after losing I don’t know how many rivets.
Can you use electrical tape for the cover instead of the rivets? I find it holds it together better than the fasteners and makes it quieter.
I know that has been suggested in the past & lots of folks do it.
The problem I have is the plain old black electrical tape doesn’t seem to adhere enough.
Also since I race & train on the same wheel and lots of times race 2x a week plus train on that same wheel I’m taking the covers on & off so the rivets come in handy when I’m rigging up the wheel to go on the TT bike 45min before a race.
never had any issues with open pro rims… strange… how many miles had they seen/are you a clyde?
5’11 & 137lbs.
I used to have an Open Pro which cracked at one of the eyelets, replaced it w/an Open Sport which seems a touch more shallow.
The Open Sport was brand new when I had the wheel rebuilt last summer.
ive always found that open pros are teh go to rim for a nice set of training wheels… no experince with the open sport… i’d say if its bothering you, head back to open pro… i’ve got well over 10,000 miles on open pros with no issues… i know others get a lot more than that…
