Any ideas on a bike for a young girl?

My 9 year old daughter is a relatively new convert to biking. She is starting to really enjoy our neighborhood bike rides, but she’s outgrowing her 20" Electra crusier bike. She’s probably not ready for a real road bike, and I’m not sure she could fit on one for awhile, so I think I’m limited to 24" bikes. The few I’ve seen in this category resemble more of a mountain bike type set up with wider tires and I’m thinking more of a road bike type would be ideal. She wants a computer so she can see her average and top speed (she wants to ride fast!). Anyone have any ideas on any brands that might fit?

if you could find some tiny 650c road bike on ebay I bet that would be pretty sweet.

how tall is she?

Hit up Chucks Bikes and pick up this frame: Piedrahita 24" Wheel Road Frame

Normally I wouldn’t recommend a road bike for a kid that young but some really want the roadie and are physically mature enough to handle it. I generally like to see kids under ~12 on bmx/cruiser/mountain bikes until they get their skills up to par, but your daughter appears to have the speed bug. Make sure she wears a lid and sticks to lightly traveled roads, ideally under your supervision. I’d still recommend a bmx/mountain bike for riding around with her friends to the park, etc.

Trek KDR 1000. My 10 year old twin girls have this one.

I would PM Paulo Sousa and ask him
.

Redline makes an awesome cyclocross bike in 24"

With it, she gets off road ability, road bike STI levers and bars - the best of both worlds! Very hard to find a retailer that carries them and they usually need to be ordered. They run about $650 retail.

pinarello kui. get her started off right.

(she wants to ride fast!)
Sounds to me like she needs a P4.
