Any good bike shops in Lexington, KY?

I will be in Lexington, KY for about a week and was wondering if there were any good bike shops to browse through or perhaps get a rental. Any STers in the area? Thanks.

Ken

I dunno about bike shops (!) but you’ve gotta hit this Italian joint called Bella Notte. I swear I ate five (5) loaves of their bread & dip one night, and 3 bites of my dinner!

One of Paulo’s guys is from Lexington I think…

Funny you posted this, because I was wondering pretty much the same thing. I’m moving to Lexington this weekend. I’m actually from the area but have lived away for several years.

Any STers there that can give me some advice on pretty much the whole tri/running scene? Any good groups runs/rides? I’ll probably do the masters swimteam at UK.

Ken–I can tell you that Pedal Power on Maxwell St. is a good bike shop. They sell Cannondale, Giant, Serotta, and a few other brands I can’t remember. I’ve also heard good things about a shop called Pedal the Planet, but somebody will have to tell us both about that one.

Alan

Thanks Alan, Pedal the Planet and Pedal Power were two of the names that popped up during a quick web search. I hope to check out one or the other, probably the former. In the meantime, let’s hope some others can chime in.

Ken

  • The guys at Pedal the Planet have been pretty good to the tri community here in Lexington. That is where a lot of us go, but Pedal Power has it’s following too. If you head to PTP talk to Bill he’s been very helpful for me.

  • Paulo does have an athlete here. He posts on ST at times, so maybe he’ll drop in?

  • The largest club here in town is the Bluegrass Triathlon Club. So when you get to town check it out. Beth Atnip is the person to contact (also the rd for the tri for site race).

  • Masters at UK is lead by Susan Bradley-Cox. Very accomplished and maybe the most likeable (is that a word) person I’ve met.

  • For running groups, check out the Todd’s Road Stumblers. There is also 3 or 4 groups that run from the Starbucks/John’s Run Shop at 5:30am Tues/Thurs.

  • I wrote a little post about how much I enjoy the training here. (It got me to move back from CO anyway)

AND - Bella Notte is a great place to eat. But if I had a vote, it would be for Jonathan’s.

Thanks Gary. Nice blog. That gets me even more excited to get back to the area. I’m sure I’ll run into you before too long. I’ll give Susan a call and hopefully get into the Masters program in the next couple weeks. And I’m hoping to live pretty near John’s Run Shop, so I’ll look into those runs as well.

Alan

Definitely go with Pedal the Planet, biggest, best selection, best staff in the area, and they carry lots of tri-stuff.
