Detroit Symphony Orchestra viola player (and Hawaii Ironman) Jim Vanvalkenburg giving a concert while we tune-up his new custom Guru Aero Ti.
You mean you tune up his bike every day? =P
It says any *given *day. Silly…
Great picture!
You tune his viola?
Tom, you never struck me as a classical music type. What was he playing in your shop?

Where is the couch? I though it was in the “fitting area.”
-
Nice Basso pic.

What is that red bike fitting thing? Is it new? Is that not a Serotta thing?
-
What kind of Zipps are those hanging there?
Next time he comes in, find out where he is originally from. I honestly think his mom was my orchestra teacher - same last name and I swear her son was named Jim.
Here’s the couch: And here with good 'ole Judith.
That’s a great looking shop Tom.
That is a Serotta Size Cycle there. It is a decent fitting tool, among others. Those are new 404’s hanging from the ceiling I think.
Mr D Sir,
Would love one of your Assos jerseys. Have PM’ed you.

Thx, but re the Serotta, I always kind of thought that the F.I.S.T method was kind of at odds with the Serotta method . . . I was surprised and that’s why I asked.
Well, they are no more at odds with each other than a screwdriver is with a hammer. They are just different tools. All of them need to be in a bike fitter’s box.
read a story about this guy in the detroit paper (maybe you posted the link?) … anyway, he seems like a fascinating guy, a true renaiseance man.
tom, your shops is really cool looking. everytime you post photos of it, im impressed. wish you were just around me corner.
That’s the same fella, and he is a rennaisance man. I’ve seen him perfrom at Orchestra Hall with the DSO. He has also recorded with Stevie Wonder and Sting as a studio musician. He has an incredibly demanding schedule. For such an accomplished person he is uncannily soft spoken and humble, but always the enthusiast.
It was so odd to see this man pull this violin out of the case and suddenly start playing this beautiful music, as though the music just came out of the air. It was really quite special. We’ve had many great days in our store with a lot of fantastic customers. It’s things like this that make this such a wonderful job.
She belongs in the hottie thread.
It’s cool having a professional musician playing in the shop and serenading the customers. Trade him work on his bike for music. ![]()
BTW, very nice shop.
This was another big day in the shop, when a three time Tour de FRance winner and all-around good guy walks thorugh the door just to shoot the breeze:

And this guy too:

And you don’t even carry his line of bikes! Or do you?
And this little girl with the world championship in triathlon, the Olympic gold medal in swimming and the biggest heart you;ve ever seen who stopped in for a bike fit, then flew me out to Hawaii on her dime to fix her bike for the Olympic trials- she is really one of the good ones of all time:

That is the late, great Michael R. Rabe just over her sholder in the back room.
