This might interest people too, German TV show interviewing Mr. Denk und Mr. Hundertmarck at the same time. (Denk is the RD for IM Germany)
P.S.: It seems the aspect they are arguing about NOW is that Hundermarck crossed out part of the document saying that he will start at IM Germany, NOT the part about doping.
PM me too
.
"P.S.: It seems the aspect they are arguing about NOW is that Hundermarck crossed out part of the document saying that he will start at IM Germany, NOT the part about doping. "
That is what HE says.
He is inconsistent:
First he didn’t want to start because he didn’t get money this year.
Then he reconsiders, because he wants to raise money against cancer.
Then he X-es out the part that (according to HIM), nly contains his commitment to start.
If he wants to start to raise money, what is the problem with committing to the race?
I don’t get it.
Honestly, I think Denk’s arguments sound reasonable, since he states that the document would be invalid without the “first four lines”.
It would be interesting to know the wording of those “first four lines”.
My guess is that it contains something about “doping”, not only the part about his commitment to start.
Correct. I should have stated that it now seems very Kindergarten-ish, he started it, no he started it, etc.
thanks to the german interpreters who gave me a hand. i think i’ve got the sense of the latest on the hundertmarck thing. i needed to be boned up for an opinion piece i was writing (and just published on the slowtwitch home page).
Nicely written but I think you’re whistling in the wind right now…sadly this year’s tour looks like it is likely to be a repeat of last year’s circus with riders booted out before it even starts and a bigger cloud over the final results than ever. IM Germany obviously won’t get affected in the same way but the use of this device will encourage other race organizers to do the same.
Any athlete that refuses to sign such a waiver is not going to look too good. The crazy thing is that if you’re prepared to dope to win I don’t think lying on a little peice of paper is going to be much of a big deal, reformed ex-dopers or obstreperous athletes who are affronted by the suggestion are more likely to have issues with signing the thing. Perhaps we should just formalize in a true witch-hunting mentality, if you win then you’re guilty of doping, if you’re slow then you’re clean.
I think Hundertmarck probably falls in the reformed category but have no evidential basis for this…
