Any experience with Fitzgerald HIM training plans?

After using some other books to direct my Oly training the past 2 years (Friel, Bernhardt, etc), I was looking for something more detailed and specific as I look to my first HIM at Vineman this year. So, I picked up a copy of Matt Fitzgerald’s Essential Week-by-Week Training Guide last week. Looks like this is about as good as it gets for the self-coached (read - “can’t afford a coach”) AG-er.

After a good 3 months of base training, I’m about to launch into the Level 7 HIM plan, and was wondering if anyone out there has followed his HIM plans and have any feedback they’d be interested in sharing. Did it seem like an appropriate blend of volume and intensity? Did you feel thoroughly prepared? etc…

Thanks,

Jon

As someone that used the IM and the HIM plan I felt the only issue with the plans is that there is not enough running in them.

I’m doing the him plan right now (lvl5-7).
My issues are: not enough swimming. I add an extra day or two of swimming every week. His sets have lots of intensity, but not the volume I need… I guess that’s what he is known for though.
Also, his running speed intervals are a little much for me. Maybe its due to my fear of another injury, so I sub in a foundation or tempo run instead
Other than that the book and plans are solid. You’ll probably get some more responses
